PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Travis DeLarge (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ivan Matesic (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). DeLarge comes to the cage accompanied by Also Sprach Zarathustra. DeLarge has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Ivan Matesic is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Travis DeLarge!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ivan Matesic!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Franklyn Lucas and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Matesic has taken the fight to the clinch.
DeLarge looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!

Matesic is trying to trip DeLarge. He has hold of a leg but DeLarge is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Matesic persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Matesic looking to pass the guard.
DeLarge could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Matesic trying to control but DeLarge is working from the bottom.
Matesic must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Matesic working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of DeLarge's head.
Matesic slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Matesic thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed DeLarge's head.

Matesic takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Matesic missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Matesic is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Matesic works his way into side control.
DeLarge prevents Matesic from improving position.
DeLarge is not content to let Matesic control the position.
DeLarge throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.

Matesic has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Travis DeLarge seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Matesic closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming DeLarge to the mat! DeLarge manages to get full guard.
DeLarge wants to stand up but Matesic is controlling him.

DeLarge had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Matesic is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. DeLarge Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Matesic's back instead.

DeLarge wants to control but Matesic manages to buck him off and is now in DeLarge's guard! Nice work there by Matesic!

Matesic really doesn't want to stay on the ground with DeLarge. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

DeLarge escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Matesic gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

DeLarge is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matesic drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Matesic content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
DeLarge keeping moving, preventing Matesic from controlling successfully.
Matesic scoring with punches to the head and body.
Matesic content to stall in guard here.
Matesic with a nice head shot there.
DeLarge is trying to control the position but Matesic postures up.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Matesic wants to pass the guard but DeLarge is keeping the position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

DeLarge is trying to control but can't.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Matesic wants to pass the guard but DeLarge is defending well.

DeLarge is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Matesic pulls his head out easily.

DeLarge is looking to control Matesic's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can DeLarge avoid being mounted?
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Matesic postures up.

DeLarge looking for a guillotine here but Matesic defends easily.
DeLarge is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Matesic trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but DeLarge manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

DeLarge is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Matesic is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Matesic has escaped and now he's on top!

Matesic avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
DeLarge not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
DeLarge avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
DeLarge manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Matesic manages to get himself to full guard.
DeLarge loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ivan Matesic showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Matesic is on top in guard.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
DeLarge is trying to control the position but Matesic postures up.

Matesic drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Matesic jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
