PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Paul Hudson (ranked 5619 p4p, 3900 weight class) and Alexander Middleton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alexander Middleton told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Middleton takes the fight into the clinch.

Hudson breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
A bone on bone clash there as Middleton blocks the leg kick.
Middleton misses with a series of wild punches.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Middleton.

Middleton shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Middleton showed some decent athleticism there.
Hudson regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Middleton.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Middleton accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Hudson could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Middleton scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

Middleton drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Hudson wriggles free and stands up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Alexander Middleton dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Middleton tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Hudson paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Hudson attempts a counter takedown but Middleton avoids it well and moves away.

Hudson throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Middleton was covering up waiting for the punch and Hudson finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Hudson is looking to work some ground and pound but Middleton has wrist control.

Hudson won't allow Middleton to get back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hudson gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Hudson tries to clinch but Middleton moves out of range.
Middleton leaves Hudson with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Hudson rushes Middleton and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Middleton gets a trip takedown into half guard.

Hudson has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Middleton is on him like a limpet, forcing Hudson back against the cage.

Middleton breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Middleton pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Hudson back to the cage. Middleton follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Hudson will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Alexander Middleton seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Middleton throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Hudson tries to close the distance and clinch but Middleton swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
The fighters circle momentarily. Middleton darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Middleton content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Hudson has locked up a guillotine! Hudson's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Middleton is holding on here and Hudson must be using up a lot of energy. Middleton has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Hudson gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
