PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Royce Gracie (ranked 2243 p4p, 1629 weight class) and Vladimir Punchsky (ranked 324 p4p, 249 weight class). Gracie comes to the cage accompanied by Jiu Jitsu by Smoke Serpent. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Punchsky lands a jab to Gracie's midsection.
Punchsky lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
The crowd cheers as Punchsky lands an impressive looking overhand right. Gracie doesn't seem phased though.

Gracie shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Punchsky's guard.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Punchsky pushes Gracie away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Gracie gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Punchsky wants to control but Gracie postures up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
You can see the frustration on Punchsky's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Horrible takedown attempt by Gracie or perhaps it was just good defense by Punchsky, which made it look bad.

Royce Gracie seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Punchsky misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Punchsky throws a good cross that connects.
Gracie takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Punchsky pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Gracie back to the cage. Punchsky follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Gracie goes for a double leg but Punchsky avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Punchsky continues to drive forward.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Gracie has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Punchsky avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Gracie drops down looking for an ankle pick but Punchsky pulls his leg out and moves away.

Gracie takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Gracie is trying hard to land a takedown here. Punchsky sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

and Punchsky counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
