And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Loquacious Smiff!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Paul Tew and Sam Margolis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Phillips tries a head kick but it misses.
Phillips digs a good hook to Smiff's body.
Smiff scores with a takedown into Phillips's guard.
Smiff working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Smiff seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Phillips keeping moving, preventing Smiff from controlling successfully.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Phillips trying to strike off his back.
Smiff throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Phillips works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Phillips is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Smiff is in close to Phillips's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Phillips is looking to sweep but instead, Smiff has passed into half guard.

Smiff tries to pass the half guard into mount. Phillips knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Phillips wants to improve his position but Smiff is controlling well.
Smiff has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Phillips is in trouble now - Smiff has advanced to mount!
Phillips tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Phillips defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Smiff.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Phillips wants to get back to his feet.
Smiff looking to control but Phillips is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Smiff lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Phillips hang on?
Smiff postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Phillips looks a forlorn figure.
Smiff is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Phillips is forced to tap! Great finish!

A relieved looking Loquacious Smiff thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
