The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Beard cracks Montenegro with a right hand to the side of the head.
It looks like Juan Pablo Montenegro has been cut.
Beard looks to land a combination. Montenegro sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Montenegro takes one to the side of the head.
Montenegro moves into the clinch.
Montenegro has clasped his hands together around Beard's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Beard throws Montenegro to one side and escapes!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Montenegro drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

A looping hook to the body misses from Beard. Montenegro does a little dance to reset his feet.
A combination from Beard does no damage.
Montenegro wants to counter with a clinch but Beard pushes him away.
Beard throws a nice inside leg kick.
Beard gets tackled into the cage by Montenegro. Montenegro maintains the clinch.
Beard has had enough of the clinch but Montenegro keeps him there for the moment.
Montenegro lands a body shot.
Beard tries to break the clinch but Montenegro is controlling the position.

Beard is fighting off a takedown attempt but Montenegro is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Beard to the mat. Beard regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Beard is looking to stand back up but Montenegro counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Beard.
Montenegro lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Beard on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Montenegro is trying to control the action in half guard but Beard is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Montenegro looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Beard with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Montenegro working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Montenegro really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Beard. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Beard is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Montenegro scores with a couple of nice shots.

Montenegro is keen to just control but Beard is a slippery customer.
Montenegro winds up and cracks Beard with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Beard throws a leg kick which misses Montenegro's front leg but catches the back leg as Montenegro tries to avoid it.
Beard throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Montenegro.
Beard bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.

Beard throws a body punch but Montenegro moves out of range.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Montenegro connects with a nice short shot to Beard's temple.
Montenegro is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Montenegro lands a massive shot from half guard that has rocked Beard! More strikes land and this one is all over! Montenegro jumps to his feet and is applauded loudly by the crowd!
