And in the blue corner, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, with a TWGC record of 6 wins and 6 losses; Mike Kerr!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Leandro Rodrigues and Mauricio Rocha.


The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way.

Vrjalya darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Vrjalya looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Vrjalya prevents Kerr from improving his position.
Vrjalya is controlling the pace.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kerr is holding on to half guard well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Vrjalya has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Kerr is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Vrjalya jumps into side control!

Kerr tries to buck Vrjalya off but Vrjalya is having none of it.
Vrjalya content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

Vrjalya seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Kerr for as long as he can get away with.

Kerr tries to buck Vrjalya off but Vrjalya is having none of it.
Vrjalya definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Kerr can't do much from the bottom here.
Vrjalya is staying tight to Kerr's torso, preventing him from escaping.

You can see the frustration on Kerr's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Kerr is trying to control Vrjalya's posture but Vrjalya avoids it.

Kerr felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

This is a sustained period of stalling by Vrjalya.
Kerr can't do much from the bottom here.

Vrjalya is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Kerr is trying to improve his position.

Vrjalya continues to stall.
Kerr wants to control but Vrjalya postures up.
Kerr is looking to reverse the position.
Vrjalya is staying tight to Kerr's torso, preventing him from escaping.

Kerr tries to get back to half guard but can't.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
