A fine choice. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ortiz changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Smith tries to avoid it but Ortiz manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Smith to the ground. Smith escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Smith feinted with a counter takedown.
Ortiz misses with a combination

and Smith counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ortiz is trying to keep Smith in close.
Smith wants to control from the top but Ortiz keeps moving.
Smith throws a strike but Ortiz rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Ortiz drops back looking for a leg! Smith is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Smith manages to kick Ortiz off! Ortiz jumps back into Smith's guard.
Smith could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Smith lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Smith postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Ortiz lands a couple of shots from the bottom.

Smith is sitting in close to Ortiz's body. Ortiz has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Smith is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Smith is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Ortiz.
