PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Suzaku Kururugi (ranked 5662 p4p, 22489 weight class) and Jengo Njoku (ranked 604 p4p, 637 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Njoku's choice of entrance music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9V78UbdzWI. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Suzaku Kururugi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jengo Njoku!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Josh West and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Njoku moves out of range of the body kick.
Njoku steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Kururugi.
We've been told by Kururugi's head coaches at The Proving Grounds that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Njoku slips under a jab.
Njoku dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Kururugi misses with a low kick.
It seemed like Njoku was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Kururugi takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Njoku has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.

Njoku lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

This entire fight has taken place on the feet so far and you wonder whether Kururugi might be better served trying to take this one to the ground because he's losing the standup battle so far.

Jengo Njoku showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Njoku lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Kururugi has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Kururugi and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Well Njoku has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Jengo Njoku decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
