PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ivan Orlov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chuck Liddell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Liddell has chosen Harder Than You Think- Public Enemy as his entrance music. Liddell has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ivan Orlov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Chuck Liddell!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Liddell throws a hook but Orlov avoids it easily.
Liddell misses with a hook.
Liddell looks to score with a jab to the body but Orlov is just out of range.
Orlov misses with a body shot.
Orlov misses with a looping right.
Orlov lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
A chopping leg kick lands by Orlov.
Liddell looks gassed!
Orlov slips under a jab from Liddell.
Orlov throws a right and a left that Liddell avoids nicely.
A jab from Liddell finds it's way through Orlov's defenses.
Orlov scores with a jab. Liddell acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Orlov is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Orlov closes the distance and clinches.

Orlov tries for a takedown but Liddell manages to get underhooks.

Orlov decides to pull guard.
Orlov looking to hit a scissor sweep but Liddell is one step ahead there.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Orlov is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Orlov throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

Orlov working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Liddell doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Liddell manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Orlov moves into the clinch successfully.
Orlov has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Liddell is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Liddell is fighting off a takedown attempt but Orlov is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Liddell to the mat. Liddell regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Orlov wants to control from the top but Liddell keeps moving.
Liddell really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Orlov. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Orlov thows a big elbow that misses.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Orlov accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Orlov is pushing down on Liddell's leg trying to pass to half guard. Liddell is fighting to maintain full guard but Orlov has managed to sneak the leg through.

Orlov has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Orlov throws a right and a left that both miss.
Nice jab there from Orlov.
Orlov lands with a hook. Liddell tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Orlov tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Liddell paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Orlov closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Orlov lands in his opponent's guard.
Orlov lands a couple of elbows.

Liddell blocking the ground and pound attempt from Orlov.

Orlov is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Liddell defends it well.
Orlov throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Orlov is pressing down on Liddell's thigh, looking to free his foot. Liddell is holding on for now.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Orlov connects with a nice short shot to Liddell's temple.

Liddell is in trouble now - Orlov has advanced to mount!
Orlov postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Liddell looks a forlorn figure.
Orlov scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Orlov fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Orlov prevents Liddell from getting the reversal.

Orlov is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Liddell can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Orlov lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Liddell hang on?
Liddell takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Orlov is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Liddell is surviving well by controlling Orlov's body position as best he can.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Liddell can do anything to dispel that myth.

Orlov goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Liddell is on top in guard.

Orlov is working for a takedown up against the ropes. He can't get it on this occasion though.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ivan Orlov. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Orlov breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Orlov rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Liddell moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Orlov misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Orlov tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Liddell swivels and escapes.
Nice takedown defense from Liddell. No joy for Orlov on that attempt.

Orlov shoots in looking for a takedown. Liddell tries to sprawl out of it but Orlov keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Liddell manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Liddell throws a sloppy head kick and Orlov moves out of range easily.
Liddell keeps the fight on the outside.

Horrible takedown by Orlov or perhaps it was just good defense by Liddell which made him look bad.

Liddell cracks Orlov with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the ropes.
Orlov throws a predictable looking body shot
and Orlov takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Orlov.

Orlov is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Liddell has escaped the position, nice work there.
Liddell manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Orlov makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Orlov.
Orlov is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Orlov has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Liddell can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Orlov is looking to sinch up a triangle. Liddell throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Orlov's body to avoid the submission. Orlov has instead reached around Liddell's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Orlov arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 5:03 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Ivan Orlov!
