PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sammy King (ranked 21422 p4p, 20099 weight class) and Ginger Jesus (ranked 729 p4p, 743 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Jesus's choice of entrance music: Jesus Walks BY-KANYE WEST. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jesus gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Jesus pushes King off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
King closes the distance and clinches up with Jesus, looking for a takedown. King pushes Jesus against the cage but Jesus circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Jesus stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

It looks like Sammy King has been cut.
King uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Jesus.

Jesus has taken the fight to the clinch.

Jesus tries a body shot but King blocks it.

I was talking to King's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

King wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Jesus has him pressed against the cage.
Jesus tried to land a shot to the body but connects with King's elbow.
Jesus makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
King is trying to break the clinch but Jesus has him pressed against the cage.

King's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

King fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Jesus, pushing him back against the cage.
King blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Jesus lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Jesus throws a head punch that misses.
King misses with a short punch on the inside.
King tries to break free but Jesus pushes him back against the cage.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Jesus lands a left hand.
King working hard to break the clinch.
Jesus swings away with an uppercut that misses.

Jesus is leaning against King and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.

A nice leg kick from Jesus, right into the meat of the thigh.

King closes the distance and pushes Jesus back into the cage.

The crowd cheers as Jesus lands an impressive looking overhand right. King doesn't seem phased though.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

King breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Jesus avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
King tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Jesus fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Jesus misses with a double jab.

King shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!
Jesus tries to kick King off but King keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Jesus on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
King trying to control the action but Jesus is working from the bottom.

King lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Ginger Jesus dominated that round.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

King throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Jesus.
A decent looking cross lands there for Jesus.
King swings widly with a right hand

and Jesus counters with a left hand that sends King to the canvas!

King is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Jesus is controlling him.
Oh King is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Jesus throws a big elbow that misses.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Jesus postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
King is trying to control the position but Jesus postures up.
King seems to have got his legs back now.
King wants to stand up but Jesus is controlling him.
King is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Jesus wants to get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ground and pound from King.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. King connects with a nice short shot to Jesus's temple.
King looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
King wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jesus keeps working.
Jesus wants to get back to his feet.
Jesus is refusing to be controlled, as King sits in half guard.

and Jesus counters with a beautiful punch that sends King to the canvas!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Jesus takes a decent strike to the side of the head.

King uses the cage to get back to his feet.
King gets hit by the mother of all head kicks and drops to the canvas in a crumpled heap! Woooow, the Internet is going to be talking about this one for weeks!
