PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Milez Velez (ranked 24156 p4p, 24530 weight class) and Steph Curry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Velez comes to the cage accompanied by Praise The Lord (Da Shine). Steph Curry will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Steph Curry!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Marco Blurström and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Curry wants to clinch.
Curry fails with a takedown attempt.

Curry gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Velez jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Curry walks away with a smile on his face. Velez gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Velez circles away from the clinch attempt.
Velez lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Velez defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Curry.
Velez shoots in but no luck this time.

Curry tries to score a body lock takedown but Velez shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Curry isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Velez stacks Curry on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Velez!

Velez pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Curry back to the cage. Velez follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

Curry must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Curry stands up from Velez's guard - Curry perhaps looking for a knockout.
Curry slips a jab and a cross from Velez.
Curry tries to clinch up but Velez circles away and keeps his distance.

and Velez counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Velez.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Velez has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Velez tries to break free but Curry pushes him back against the cage.

Curry pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

and Curry holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

and Velez counters by clinching up.

Curry is trying to force a seperation but Velez has the dominant position.
Curry prevents the takedown attempt.
Curry is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Curry throws an elbow but it's blocked.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Curry drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Velez gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Velez wants to break free but Curry has control.

Curry manages to break the clinch.

Velez closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Curry can't do much from the bottom here.
Velez is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Curry can do to turn this around?
Curry is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Velez asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Milez Velez overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Curry explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!

Curry has managed to clinch.
Velez has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Curry after a bit of a struggle.
Curry tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Velez avoids it.
Velez has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Curry avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Milez Velez. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Curry breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Curry changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Velez fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Curry shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Velez but Velez pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Curry is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Velez rolls with it to try and escape but Curry cranks on the arm and Velez is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
