The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Phillips clinches up with Gempeler and pushes him back against the cage.
Gempeler tries to stall but Phillips uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Phillips is pushing Gempeler up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Gempeler lands a left hand that snaps the head of Phillips backwards.
Phillips can't find room to land a body shot as Gempeler controls the action.

Phillips has Gempeler pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Gempeler manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Gempeler is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Phillips is keeping busy.

Phillips has had enough of the clinch but Gempeler keeps him there for the moment.

Phillips tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Gempeler swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Phillips has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Gempeler after a bit of a struggle.

Phillips jumps guard and drags Gempeler to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Phillips is pulling down on Gempeler's head. It's preventing any offense from Gempeler, at least for the moment.

Phillips has his feet on Gempeler's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Gempeler misses with a wild combination.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Phillips throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Gempeler's waist but Gempeler gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Phillips off to one side.

Phillips decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Gempeler wants to get back to his feet.

Phillips really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Gempeler misses with a right hand

and Phillips moves into the clinch.
Gempeler is trying to stall.

Phillips escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Gempeler swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Phillips shoots in for a takedown but Gempeler shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Phillips closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Gempeler throws a right and a left that Phillips avoids nicely.
Gempeler scores with a crisp jab that stopped Phillips in his tracks.
Phillips circles away from the clinch attempt.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Gempeler bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Phillips's head backwards.

Phillips seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Gempeler plants his feet and throws a 3 punch combo. Miss, miss, boom! The third punch, a big right hook, connects right on the temple and drops Phillips to the mat, unconscious! This fight is all over! Phillips just couldn't keep out of the way of the whole flurry of punches!
