The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jackson throws a left that rocks Perex and follows with a right that sends him tumbling to the canvas! Jackson dives into side control, looking to finish! Can Perex regain composure!

It looks like Shaun Perex has been cut.

Jackson is looking to take a break and control but Perex is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Jackson wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Perex, who protects the arm well.

Perex's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Jackson can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Perex is looking to escape.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Perex utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Jackson decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Perex, up you get!

so Jackson counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Jackson has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Jackson accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Perex has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Jackson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Perex stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jackson swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Jackson manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Perex is wriggling around here but as he tries to escape, Jackson has taken his back.
