PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Giuseppe Amodei (ranked 1976 p4p, 2039 weight class) and Mordechai Kowalczyk (ranked 116 p4p, 126 weight class). Kowalczyk has chosen Nocturne op. 9 no.2- Frederic Chopin as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 16 - 3, fighting out of Las Vegas, Giuseppe Amodei!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mordechai Kowalczyk!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kowalczyk uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Amodei has time to react.
Amodei closes the distance and clinches up with Kowalczyk, looking for a takedown. Amodei pushes Kowalczyk against the cage but Kowalczyk circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Kowalczyk throws a body punch but Amodei moves out of range.
Kowalczyk attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Amodei throws the left hand but Kowalczyk avoids the punch easily.
Kowalczyk looks to score with a jab to the body but Amodei is just out of range.
Kowalczyk dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

and Amodei connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Amodei scores with a sloppy right hand. Kowalczyk should have avoided that one.

Amodei is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Kowalczyk.

Kowalczyk feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Amodeis jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

enabling Amodei to counter with a crisp jab.

Amodei scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Kowalczyk tries to buck Amodei off but Amodei is having none of it.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Kowalczyk is not content to let Amodei control the position.
Kowalczyk is looking for a sweep.

Amodei wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kowalczyk keeps working.

Amodei gets to mount! Kowalczyk was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.

Kowalczyk has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Amodei finds it's way round the side to connect with Kowalczyk's head.
That kick from Kowalczyk tenderised Amodei's leg. Amodei is trying to keep his angry face on.

Amodei lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Kowalczyk connects with a jab.
Mordechai Kowalczyk is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Kowalczyk dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Amodei. That did some damage!
Kowalczyk throws a solid leg kick but Amodei takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Kowalczyk.

Amodei is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Kowalczyk's half guard.

Giuseppe Amodei overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Amodei got a little sloppy there for a moment and Kowalczyk has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Amodei has managed to get both his arms back between Kowalczyk's legs - danger averted.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Amodei has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Amodei and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

I would just about give that final round to Mordechai Kowalczyk.
I think Amodei has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Giuseppe Amodei spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
