PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Mikey Day (ranked 1920 p4p, 1111 weight class) and Peter Narz (ranked 115 p4p, 65 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 19 - 1, fighting out of New York, Mikey Day!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 30 - 27 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Peter Narz!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Narz chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Day can pounce on him.
Day checks a low kick from Narz.
Day looks for a takedown but Narz sprawls well.
Day throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Narz uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Day.
Day lands with a nice body punch.
Day pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Day has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Day feints and as Narz raises his hands in defense, Day changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Day seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Narz for as long as he can get away with.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Some bone on bone action there as Day checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Narz is looking to sweep but instead, Day has passed into half guard.

Narz has one foot on Day's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Day fails with a takedown attempt.

Narz lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Narz throws an overhand right that lands on Day's shoulder, as Day tries to avoid the shot.
Day closes this distance looking for a takedown but Narz circles away.

A telegraphed right hand from Day misses the target.
A little jabbing left from Narz on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Day is looking to clinch.
Day ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Day moves out of range of the leg kick from Narz.
Day closes this distance looking for a takedown but Narz circles away.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Day lands with a left to the head.

Day has Narz pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Day pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Narz tumbling to the mat - Day dives into Narz's guard.

Day is fighting to break Narz's control of his arms but Narz is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Narz is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Narz is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Narz is trying to control. Day wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Day seems to have got his legs back now.

Narz decides to stand and escape the position.
Day fails with a takedown attempt.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Day takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Narz scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Day throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Peter Narz showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Day throws a body punch but Narz moves out of range.
Mikey Day has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Narz keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Narz stalks Day and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Day's face. Day staggers backwards, shaken.

Day feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Day won't allow Narz to get back to his feet.

Narz stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Day swivels though and keeps the full guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Narz pushes down on Day's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Peter Narz has got the better of the ground game so far.
Narz is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Day is looking to get to half guard.
Day is squirming around, avoiding Narz's attempts to control the action.
Day prevents any damage by holding on tight.
Day tries to lock up and control but Narz gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Day has worked his way to half guard, taking advantage of Narz's lack of action.
Still in half guard, Narz seems content to control.
Narz tries to pass to full mount but Day defends it.

Narz is trying to work for a kimura but Day is defending well.
Narz is looking to take a break and control but Day is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Day is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Day looking for submissions off his back.
Narz tries to stand but can't do so whilst Day controls his leg.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Narz connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Day's hands.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Peter Narz is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Day shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Narz manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Peter Narz comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Narz has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
