PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Brian Spam (ranked 2148 p4p, 3036 weight class) and Timothy Green (ranked 276 p4p, 381 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Brian Spam!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Timothy Green!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Spam shoots in but Green avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Spam shoots in and drives through. Green sprawls well.
It seemed like Green was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Green looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Spam's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Spam duly obliges.
Spam tries for a takedown but Green sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Brian Spam. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Spam shoots and misses
and Green counters with a nice uppercut.
Some wild striking there from Spam.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Spam dives in for a single leg takedown but Green sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Green prevents a takedown attempt there.

Green breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Spam fails with a takedown attempt.
Spam has been working on his boxing with his coaches at JAG Battle Gym in the buildup to the fight.
Spam shoots in for a takedown but Green shows good takedown defense.
Spam's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Spam duly obliges.
Spam darts in looking for a takedown but Green gets double underhooks and turns Spam into the cage.
Green swings away with an uppercut that misses.

Spam gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

Spam is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Green wants to stand but Spam is controlling the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Spam drops back looking for a leg! Green is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Green manages to kick Spam off! Spam jumps back into Green's guard.
Spam controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Spam slips nicely into half guard.
Green pushes Spam off but Spam dives into side control.

Spam thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Spam looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Green seems a little lost for a moment, as Spam dominates the positioning.
Green really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Spam. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Green is pushing Spam's head away, looking to escape. Spam manages to hold on to the position though.
The referee asks Spam politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Spam prefers to stall for the moment though.

Spam is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Green has escaped the position, nice work there.

Spam tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Spam wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Green, who protects the arm well.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Brian Spam dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Spam shoots for a takedown but Green saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Spam throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Green's waist but Green gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Spam off to one side.
Spam fails with a takedown attempt.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Green! But no joy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Brian Spam. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Spam lands with an uppercut that bounces Green off the cage and back into range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Horrible takedown attempt by Spam or perhaps it was just good defense by Green, which made it look bad.
A little jabbing left from Green on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Spam shoots and misses
and Green counters with a series of strikes. Spam will be more careful next time no doubt.

Spam misses with a series of wild punches.

Spam bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Spam is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Green's shoulder. That is not cool.

Spam is trying to get an arm triangle but Green is defending well.

Spam is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Green has escaped the position, nice work there.
Spam tries to move to mount but Green blocks the move with his legs.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Spam taking a breather here.
Spam advances nicely into full mount.
Spam looking to control but Green is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Green has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Spam working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.

Green is trying to defend against the choke here but Spam has an arm under his chin. This one might not last much longer. Spam Tightens the hold and Green taps out furiously! Spam displays superior BJJ to win the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:30 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Brian Spam!
