PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between AU ST (ranked 2762 p4p, 2437 weight class) and Marty Moon (ranked 269 p4p, 246 weight class). AU ST has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, AU ST!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Marty Moon!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Chris Dean and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Excellent takedown into side control there by Moon.

ST sneaks out the side door and pushes Moon away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Moon gets tackled into the cage by ST. ST maintains the clinch.

ST lands a takedown into guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Moon controlling the position.
ST trying to control the position from guard on top but Moon is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Moon seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
ST stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Moon swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Moon is looking to sweep but instead, ST has passed into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

ST is working for a submission of some sort.
ST thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Moon's head.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Moon can do anything to dispel that myth.
ST trying to control the action but Moon is working from the bottom.
Moon wants to control but ST is keeping busy.
Moon trying to get back to full guard but ST takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Moon is looking to improve his position but ST isn't that keen on the idea.
A nice elbow there by ST.
ST lands a big elbow.
Moon tries to hold on but ST postures up.
Moon regains half guard.
ST tries to pass to full mount but Moon defends it.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

ST is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Moon is just riding it out for now. ST eventually gives up the hold.
Moon controlling the position well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
ST is trying to control the action in half guard but Moon is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Moon kicks off ST and gets to his feet.
We've been told by ST's head coaches at Reach Around that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Moon tries to clinch up but ST circles away and keeps his distance.

ST shoots in and bounces Moon off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Moon manages to escape and get back to his feet.
ST defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Moon.
Moon shoots in for a takedown but ST shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Nice takedown defense from ST. No joy for Moon on that attempt.
AU ST has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Marty Moon.

Moon gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Moon trying to control the position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

AU ST dominated that round.
That's time! ST's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Moon is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Moon tries to close the distance and clinch but ST swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
ST is looking for a counter combo.
Moon has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight.
Moon is looking to clinch.

Moon has taken the fight to the clinch.

ST is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Moon can't fight it off and eventually ST manages to take the fight to the floor. Moon looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
ST is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Moon can do to turn this around?

Moon working for submissions but it's allowed ST to get to half guard.
ST scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

ST is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

That's one minute gone in the round.
ST sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Moon defending well though.

ST is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
AU ST overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
ST throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Moon wants to get back to full guard.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. ST lands a nice short elbow.
ST lands strikes from half guard.
Moon tries to kick ST off in order to stand up. ST Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
ST lands an elbow.

ST is working to tighten his grip on Moon's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Moon has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but ST is really squeezing tight and eventually Moon passes out! ST breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:28 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). AU ST!
An out of breath AU ST thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
