PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Daniel Cormier (ranked 3531 p4p, 24667 weight class) and Halt Warris (ranked 399 p4p, 583 weight class). Cormier comes to the cage accompanied by Face the Pain. Warris has chosen Alarm Clock as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Daniel Cormier!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Halt Warris!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Radbod Blank and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fight stays on the outside here - Warris looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Cormier fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Cormier throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

Cormier throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Warris tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Cormier is in Warris's guard.
Cormier has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Warris is proving hard to escape from.
Cormier might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Warris has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Cormier can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Cormier's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cormier is in close to Warris's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Cormier working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Warris's head.
Cormier chips away with some ground and pound.

Cormier pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Warris is keeping the position for now.
Cormier throwing strikes from guard but Warris blocks nicely.
Cormier makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Cormier cracks Warris with a solid left hand.
Cormier stops Warris from standing up.
Cormier has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Warris is proving hard to escape from.
Cormier keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Warris's head.
Warris not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Cormier is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Cormier lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Cormier lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Warris keeping moving, preventing Cormier from controlling successfully.
Cormier stopping the sweep attempt from Warris.
Cormier trying to control but Warris is working from the bottom.
Cormier is working Warris over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Cormier slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Cormier looks up at the clock and then as Warris takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Cormier smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Warris is rocked!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cormier trying to control the position but Warris is working away.

Warris taking a bit of punishment here - Cormier scoring with strikes.
Warris is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Cormier cracks Warris with a big right hand but Warris just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Warris is still in real trouble! Can Cormier finish him?
Cormier wants to lay and pray for a moment but Warris keeps working.
Warris seems to have recovered his senses.
Cormier landing strikes.

It looks like Halt Warris has been cut.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Cormier lands a strong strike to the head of Warris. That's dazed him! Cormier looking to finish here. Warris is waving his arms around trying to block but he's hurt badly - Cormier lands more strikes and the referee steps in to end the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:24 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Daniel Cormier!
Daniel Cormier was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
