PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mob Barley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Doug Hiner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hiner has chosen you always believed as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mob Barley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Doug Hiner!
The judges for this bout are , and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barley throws a nice looking combination but Hiner bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Barley lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Hiner circles away quickly and effectively.
Hiner fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Barley checks it well.
Barley fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Barley rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Hiner moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
A jab-cross combination lands for Barley and sends Hiner crashing to the mat! Barley follows him down to the mat - Hiner regains half guard but he's not out of trouble yet!


Hiner is rocked!


It looks like Doug Hiner has been cut.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Barley escapes and gets back to his feet.
Hiner is still on wobbly legs! Can Barley finish him?
Barley misses with a wild combination.
Hiner seems to have recovered his senses.
Hiner checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Hiner throws out a powerful jab.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Hiner wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Hiner wants to get back to striking at distance but Barley won't allow it.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Barley.
Hiner tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Barley just stands there and leans against the cage.
Hiner has had enough of the clinch but Barley keeps him there for the moment.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Barley misses with a hook from the clinch.
Barley wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Hiner lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
Hiner looking for a takedown.
Hiner wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Hiner creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Barley's defenses.


It looks like Mob Barley has been cut.
Hiner fails to pull guard.
Mob Barley has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Doug Hiner.

Barley breaks from the clinch.
Barley shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Hiner pinned against the cage. Hiner gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Barley throws a low kick but Hiner avoids it.
Barley throws a nice looking combination but Hiner bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Barley stuffs the takedown attempt from Hiner. Hiner gets slowly back to his feet.
Barley misses with a few strikes there.
Barley is breathing heavily.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Hiner forces Barley back against the cage and clinches.
Barley gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Hiner.
Hiner content to slow the pace in the clinch.

Hiner manages to pull guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Hiner is on top in guard.
Barley working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Hiner.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hiner controlling from the top position.
Hiner works a leg free and moves into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hiner not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Hiner with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Barley pushes Hiner off looking to stand but Hiner dives back in and keeps control.
Hiner looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Hiner wants to pass to mount but Barley is defending the position.
Hiner passes to side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Hiner stands up and beckons Barley to his feet.
Barley feints and then cracks Hiner's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Hiner down.
Hiner takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Barley moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Hiner avoids the body shot from Barley.
Barley with a jab.
Hiner avoids a punch combination nicely.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Barley gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Hiner breaks from the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mob Barley dominated that round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Hiner darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Hiner takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Barley is looking to get back to is feet but Hiner passes into side control.
Hiner wants to control but Barley is keeping him busy.
Barley pushes Hiner away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Hiner gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Barley avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Hiner.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Hiner just content to control the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Hiner tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Hiner has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Barley is trying to get back to half guard.
Barley can't do much from the bottom here.
Hiner taking a breather here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Hiner has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Barley looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Hiner fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Barley clinches but Hiner breaks the clinch

and Hiner moves into the clinch.
A bit of stalling here from Hiner.

Hiner manages to break the clinch.
Hiner has a takedown stuffed.
Barley lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Barley.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Barley avoids the head kick by Hiner.
Barley walks into a left hand.

Hiner feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Hiner stops Barley from standing up.
Hiner stays in close to Barley's body and controls the position.
Hiner wants to control from the top but Barley keeps moving.
Hiner won't allow Barley to get back to his feet.
Hiner cracks Barley with a solid left hand.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hiner pushing down on Barley's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Hiner not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Hiner stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Barley to get to his feet.

Hiner bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Barley is trying to get back to his feet.

Hiner decides to stand back up. Hiner steps back and let's Barley get back to his feet.
Barley slips a jab and a cross from Hiner.
Barley swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Hiner counters with a takedown into side control.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Doug Hiner showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Barley scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Barley tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Hiner counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Barley is pulling down on Hiner's head to control his posture.

Hiner postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Barley is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Hiner, into his guard.
Hiner wants to stand but Barley is controlling the position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Barley won't allow Hiner to sweep him here.
Barley trying to control but Hiner is working from the bottom.
Barley wants to get up but he can't break Hiner's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Hiner pushes Barley off and scrambles back to his feet.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Hiner.

Hiner staying calm.
Barley can't do much from the bottom here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Barley is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Hiner is controlling him well.
Hiner is staying tight to Barley's torso, preventing him from escaping.

Hiner decides to stand back up. Hiner steps back and let's Barley get back to his feet.

Hiner shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Hiner drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Hiner jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Hiner keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Barley's head.
Hiner looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hiner accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Hiner stands up from Barley's guard - Hiner perhaps looking for a knockout.
Barley misses with a double jab

and Hiner counters by clinching up.
Hiner is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Barley pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Barley is trying to break the clinch but Hiner has him pressed against the cage.
Hiner is trying to drag Barley to the mat but Barley just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Hiner fails to pull the fight into his guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Doug Hiner comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Hiner has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
