PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Lee Sung (ranked 3118 p4p, 5040 weight class) and Roy Sands (ranked 378 p4p, 540 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Lee Sung!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Roy Sands!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sung takes one on the chin but seems OK.

Sung gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Sung is trying to drag Sands to the mat but Sands just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Sands jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Sung walks away with a smile on his face. Sands gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Sands scores with the left hand. Sung knows he should have avoided that one.
Sands throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Sung stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Sung drives through and clinches with Sands against the cage.

Sands breaks the clinch.
Sands with a jab.
Sung's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Sands connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Sung scrambles back to his feet.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Sands is looking to clinch but Sung is avoiding it.
Good exchange - Sands coming out on top.
Sands catches Sung with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Sands scores with a decent looking hook.

Sung shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Sands is trying to defend but Sung finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Sands is looking to get back to is feet but Sung passes into side control.
Sands is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Sung has just dragged him back down to the mat.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Sung is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Sands has escaped the position, nice work there.

Sung is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Sands is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Sung has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Sung scoring with punches and elbows.
Sands on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Sung is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Sands will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Sands tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.

Sung working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.

Sung is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Sands has managed to escape the submission attempt.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Lee Sung dominated that round.
That's time! Sung's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Sung.
Sung tries to move into range but Sands moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
A nice combination there by Sands.
A jab from Sands finds it's way through Sung's defenses.
Decent striking displayed by Sands there.
Sung misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Sands lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Sands.
Sands scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Good exchange - Sands coming out on top.

Sands ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Roy Sands seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
No luck for Sung with that takedown attempt.
A lazy left from Sands finds it's target.
Sands scores with a jab. Sung acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Sung is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Sands.
Sands looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
A nice leg kick from Sands, right into the meat of the thigh.
Sands throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Sung on the side of the head.

Sung on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Sands lands with a straight right. Sung didn't see that one coming.
Sands fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Sung.
Sung tries to score with a low kick but Sands moves his leg out of the way.
Sands scores with a one two! Sung had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Sands throws a nice inside leg kick.
A low kick lands for Sung.
Roy Sands seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Sands tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Sung defends well and Sands ends up having to push Sung into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Sung closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Sands quickly recovers to half guard.
Lee Sung overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Sung tries to pass the half guard into mount. Sands knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Sung content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Sands tries to kick Sung off but Sung keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Sung is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Sands is defending against the submission attempts here by Sung.
Sung content to control rather than advance.

Sung is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Sands is just riding it out for now. Sung eventually gives up the hold.
Sands is trying to stand up here but Sung is controlling him well.

Sung is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Sands wants to improve his position but Sung is controlling well.
Still in half guard, Sung seems content to control.
Sands really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sung. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Sung tries to clinch there but Sands circles away.
Sung drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Sung looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.
Sands's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Sands duly obliges.
Sands connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Sands fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Sung avoids it really well and circles away.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Roy Sands showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Sung seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Sung's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sands is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Sung is controlling him.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Sung looking to score a takedown here. Sands is defending well but Sung drives through and ends up in Sands's guard.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Sung's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Sands wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Sung manages to pass to side control.

Sung is working for a kimura but Sands is defending it quite comfortably.
Sung perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Sands is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Sung scores with a couple of nice shots.
Sands is looking to escape.
Sung looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Sung lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Sands looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Sung pushes past his half guard into mount!
Sands takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Sung tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Sands tries to hold on but Sung pushes him away.

Sung jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Sands is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Sands and Sung has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Sung tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Sung has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Sung is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Sands has escaped the position, nice work there.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sung is staying tight to Sands's torso, preventing him from escaping.

And that's the end of the fight!
Lee Sung showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Sung has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
