PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gunnar Hamundarson (ranked 22211 p4p, 2757 weight class) and Blitz Krieg (ranked 0 p4p, 93 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Gunnar Hamundarson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 26 - 31 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Blitz Krieg!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Shigeki Sano and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Krieg is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Krieg throws a good cross that connects.
Krieg feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Hamundarsons jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Hamundarson forces Krieg back against the cage and clinches.
Krieg lands a shoulder strike.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Krieg.
Hamundarson blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Hamundarson fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Krieg lands a nice uppercut.
Hamundarson lands a shot to the body.
Hamundarson has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Krieg is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Hamundarson lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Krieg is looking to escape.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Krieg is trying to stand.
Hamundarson slips a nice elbow through Krieg's hands, connecting with Krieg's forehead.

Hamundarson is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Krieg defends it well.
Krieg is trying to stand back up but Hamundarson is controlling him

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Krieg slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Krieg scores with a crisp jab that stopped Hamundarson in his tracks.
Hamundarson tries to score a power double leg takedown but Krieg sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Hamundarson somewhat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gunnar Hamundarson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hamundarson drops his hands momentarily and Krieg takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Krieg keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Krieg scores with the left hand. Hamundarson knows he should have avoided that one.
Hamundarson walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
A jab from Krieg finds it's way through Hamundarson's defenses.
Krieg is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Hamundarson had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into mush.

Hamundarson shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Krieg napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Krieg tries to escape but Hamundarson is in control.

Krieg pushes Hamundarson away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Hamundarson gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Hamundarson is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Krieg will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Hamundarson decides to stand back up. Hamundarson steps back and let's Krieg get back to his feet.
Hamundarson shoots in looking for a takedown but Krieg manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Hamundarson's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Krieg lands with a straight right. Hamundarson didn't see that one coming.

Hamundarson seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Hamundarson's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Blitz Krieg dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Hamundarson takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Krieg throws a good cross that connects.
Krieg scores with a crisp jab that stopped Hamundarson in his tracks.
Hamundarson moves forwards but Krieg connects with a nice, crisp jab.

Hamundarson has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Krieg finds it's way round the side to connect with Hamundarson's head.
Hamundarson moves forwards but Krieg connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Gunnar Hamundarson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Krieg sizes up Hamundarson with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.

Krieg has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.

Krieg lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Krieg's jab looks to have found its range, popping Hamundarson under the eye.

Hamundarson closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Krieg did well to prevent Hamundarson getting side control.

Krieg bucks up and tries to throw Hamundarson off but instead Hamundarson has got his back!
Krieg has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Hamundarson lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.

Krieg is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.

Krieg is trying to get back to his feet but Hamundarson has full control of the position and if anything, Krieg has just worked his way into a worse spot.

Krieg is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Hamundarson gets his way!
Krieg really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hamundarson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Hamundarson is persistently looking for the submission but Krieg is defending it well.

Hamundarson is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Krieg has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

Blitz Krieg showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Krieg moves into range and connects with a jab.
Krieg lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Hamundarson drives through and clinches with Krieg against the cage.

Hamundarson is trying to drag Krieg to the mat but Krieg just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Hamundarson is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Krieg has escaped the position, nice work there.
Krieg tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
Krieg is taking damage to the body and head.

Krieg is trying to get back to his feet but Hamundarson has full control of the position and if anything, Krieg has just worked his way into a worse spot.
I would not like to be Krieg right now.
Krieg is trying to stand back up.
Krieg is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

Hamundarson is persistently looking for the submission but Krieg is defending it well.
Gunnar Hamundarson has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Krieg grimaces as he takes a shot to the body.

I've got Krieg winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A less than humble Blitz Krieg misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
