PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Aaron Petrov (ranked 986 p4p, 1158 weight class) and Gauthier Delisle (ranked 108 p4p, 126 weight class). Petrov comes to the cage accompanied by Star.One - Original Badman Feat. Takura & Assassin. Aaron Petrov has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 33 - 13 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Aaron Petrov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gauthier Delisle!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, James Atkins and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Delisle lands a nice shot that snaps Petrov's head back.
Petrov connects with a looping right hand.

Delisle drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
The ground and pound from Delisle seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Petrov is looking to reverse the position.

Delisle tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Delisle has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Delisle misses with the ground and pound.
Petrov is trying to get back to half guard.
Delisle taking a breather here.
Delisle trying to control the action but Petrov is working from the bottom.

Delisle tries to advance to mount but Petrov denies him.
Delisle in side control, throwing shots but Petrov defends.

Delisle thowing shots but they're missing.
Petrov can't escape the position.
Delisle punching from mount but Petrov doing a good job of avoiding damage.

Petrov avoids a series of strikes thrown by Delisle.
Petrov stops Delisle from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.

Delisle swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Petrov is now in Delisle's guard. A big mistake from Delisle there, giving up the dominant position!

Delisle looking for a guillotine here but Petrov defends easily.

Delisle is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Petrov is aware though and is defending well.
Delisle is trying to control the position but Petrov postures up.

Petrov not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Petrov has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Delisle working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Petrov has passed into half guard!
Delisle tries to roll over but Petrov keeps him under control.
Petrov is trying to control. Delisle wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Petrov prevents Delisle from improving his position.
Delisle is trying to maintain the position but Petrov is very close to passing his half guard.

Delisle looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Delisle wants to get back to full guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Delisle is in trouble now - Petrov has advanced to mount!
Delisle is trying to reverse the position but instead Petrov has taken his back - oops!

Gauthier Delisle dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

The fighters circling - Delisle throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Delisle shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Petrov will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Delisle wants to control from the top but Petrov keeps moving.

Delisle has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Delisle tries to pass the half guard into mount. Petrov knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Delisle is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Petrov is looking to improve his position.

Delisle is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Petrov still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Petrov has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!
Delisle is looking for a sweep.

Delisle struggling a bit here.
Petrov remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Delisle tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Petrov wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Petrov controls the position.
Petrov wants to lay and pray for a moment but Delisle keeps working.

Delisle is trying to work for a sweep but Petrov has mounted him!
Petrov tries to control but Delisle wriggling away.
Delisle manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Delisle has a hand on Petrov's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Petrov takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

Delisle tries to get to full guard but Petrov has control of the leg.
Petrov wants to take a breather but Delisle is having none of it.
Petrov wants to pass to mount but Delisle is defending the position.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Petrov seems to be working for a kimura but Delisle defends the submission attempt.

A close second round but Gauthier Delisle will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Petrov bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Gauthier Delisle seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Delisle lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Delisle darts in looking for a takedown but Petrov gets double underhooks and turns Delisle into the cage.

and Petrov counters with a nice low kick that buckles Delisle's knee momentarily.

Petrov loads up on a big right hand but Delisle slips the punch.

Delisle needs to keep his hands up - Petrov had a free shot at his head there.

Aaron Petrov is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Petrov lands a lovely overhand right.
A cross from Delisle lands.
Delisle catches Petrov with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Delisle takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

Petrov scores with a crisp jab that stopped Delisle in his tracks.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Gauthier Delisle is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Petrov ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Delisle moves away.
Petrov gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Petrov is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Delisle.
Delisle goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.

Petrov was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

Delisle moves out of range of the strikes.
Petrov throws a looping overhand right but Delisle ducks down to avoid it.

Petrov throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Gauthier Delisle seems to be getting the better of the standup.

and Petrov counters with a straight right hand.
Delisle throws a jab when Petrov was well out of range.
Petrov appears to be looking for a big counter.
Petrov lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Petrov bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Delisle's head.

Delisle throws the left hand but Petrov avoids the punch easily.
Petrov throws out a leg kick but Delisle moves out of range and Petrov only half commits.

Petrov pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Delisle tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Delisle ducks under a wild hook from Petrov.
Delisle misses with a looping left.
Delisle misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Petrov.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Delisle drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Petrov has control of Delisle's left arm, preventing Delisle from doing any damage.
Petrov can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Delisle controls the pace.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Gauthier Delisle.
Well Delisle has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
