Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Apollinaire Aury (ranked 5079 p4p, 3654 weight class) and Thomas Smith (ranked 576 p4p, 444 weight class). Aury kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Party Up. Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Apollinaire Aury!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Thomas Smith!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Daniel Franklin and Wesley Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Aury circles away from the clinch attempt.
Aury works the jab nicely.
The crowd cheers as Aury lands an impressive looking overhand right. Smith doesn't seem phased though.
Nice takedown defense from Aury. No joy for Smith on that attempt.
Smith pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
As Smith looks to move away, Aury throws a big counter combo but Smith just gets out of the way.
Aury works the jab nicely.
Aury cracks Smith with a right hand to the side of the head.
Smith moves to clinch but Aury breaks away
and Aury counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
A big left from Aury misses.
Smith shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Aury as he jumps to the side.
Smith misses with a wild body shot.
Smith tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Aury paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Smith needs to keep his hands up - Aury had a free shot at his head there.
It looks like Thomas Smith has been cut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Smith takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Smith tries to clinch there but Aury circles away.
Aury catches Smith with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Smith shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Aury as he avoids it easily.
Apollinaire Aury has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Thomas Smith.
Aury wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Smith looks winded!
Smith gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Aury cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Smith is rocked!
Smith is wiping some vaseline out of his eye. Aury doesn't give a rats ass about fair play and cracks him with a massive hook to the side of the head! Smith crumples to the floor out cold! The cornerman is going to be in Smith's bad books for that mishap!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Apollinaire Aury!
