PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dalton Swas (ranked 3032 p4p, 6721 weight class) and Fedor Petrov (ranked 373 p4p, 682 weight class). Petrov has chosen They want too see me fall as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dalton Swas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 15 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Fedor Petrov!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Joseph Jones and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Swas works over Petrov's head and body with a nice combination.

It looks like Fedor Petrov has been cut.
Petrov swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Swas counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Swas.
Swas is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Petrov is defending well.
Petrov has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Swas escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Swas shoots in for a takedown but Petrov shows good takedown defense.
A left and a right from Petrov both land. Nice combination.
Petrov looks to land a left hand but Swas moved out of range nicely.
Swas slips a jab and a cross from Petrov.

Swas clinches up against the cage.

Swas pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Swas fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
A nice side step and Petrov releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dalton Swas. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Swas swinging wildly here.

Swas moves into the clinch successfully.
Petrov prevents a takedown attempt there.
Petrov has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Swas pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Petrov looks to land a left hand but Swas moved out of range nicely.
Petrov tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Swas was well out of range. Poor timing from Petrov.
As Petrov backs away, Swas returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.
Petrov jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Swas will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Swas looking to score a takedown here. Petrov is defending well but Swas drives through and ends up in Petrov's guard.

Petrov looking for subs off his back but Swas has passed one foot through into half guard.

Petrov looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Well, if Swas is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Swas landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Swas tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Swas seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Swas tries to stand and escape but Petrov actually recovers to full guard.

Swas trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Petrov manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Swas has a closed guard, preventing Petrov from standing up.

Swas has his foot on Petrov's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Petrov works his way back into a safe position though.
Swas is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Swas is working hard here to advance position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Petrov drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Swas dives on top into guard.

Petrov looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Swas has Petrov up against the cage in a clinch.
Petrov is pressed up against the cage. Swas has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Petrov down to the mat. Petrov avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Swas shoots in for a double leg but Petrov sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Petrov throws a body punch but Swas moves out of range.
Swas uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Petrov.
Some wild striking there from Petrov.
Swas will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Petrov fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Good shot there by Petrov.
We've been told by Swas's head coaches at whitey's gym that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Petrov cracks Swas with a right hand to the side of the head.
Swas tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Petrov swivels and escapes.

Petrov loads up on a big right hand but Swas slips the punch.
Petrov misses with an uppercut. Swas saw that one coming.
Swas avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Fedor Petrov is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Petrov misses with a double jab.
Swas throws a big counter combination but Petrov scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
A looping hook to the body misses from Petrov. Swas does a little dance to reset his feet.

Swas has closed the distance and engaged Petrov in a clinch.

Swas ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Swas no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Petrov is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Swas is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Swas has escaped and now he's on top!


Petrov has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Swas is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Petrov.

Petrov manages to get back to half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Swas performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Swas tries to stand and escape but Petrov is controlling the position.

Swas is looking to take a break and control but Petrov is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Swas is stalling here. Petrov is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Swas seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Petrov has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Swas wants to get back to his feet but Petrov drags him back down.

Petrov working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Swas on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Swas tries to get out of the position.

Petrov tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Petrov has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Swas tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Petrov wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Swas is trying to control Petrov's posture but Petrov avoids it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Petrov is trying to move to mount but Swas reverses beautifully and ends up in Petrov's guard.
Swas chips away with some ground and pound.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Fedor Petrov showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

A big left from Petrov misses.

Swas closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Petrov tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Swas wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Dalton Swas overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Petrov on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Swas advances to mount.

Swas with a couple of short strikes.

Swas lands a big shot there that rocks Petrov but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Swas will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Swas is working the ground and pound. Can Petrov escape?
Swas is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.

Petrov is trying to stand back up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Swas keeps control of the position easily here as Petrov tries to buck him off.
Petrov trying to get back to his feet but Swas is in full control for now.

A bit of a pause in the action here. Swas controlling the positon.
Petrov manages to reverse the position and now he's in Swas's guard. Nice work there by Petrov.
Swas has Petrov pulled in close to control his posture.

Petrov wants to stand but Swas has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Swas is adopting a defensive guard.

Swas working for a triangle but Petrov defends it easily.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Petrov stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Dalton Swas showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Swas has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
