PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Sub Machine (ranked 3986 p4p, 2803 weight class) and Danny Sullivan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Sullivan's choice of entrance music: The Pogues - Streams of Whiskey. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Danny Sullivan was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 12 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sub Machine!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Danny Sullivan!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, John Kavanagh and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sullivan gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Sullivan pulls Machine into guard.
Machine wants to control from the top but Sullivan keeps moving.

Machine drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Sullivan manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Machine has Sullivan in his guard.

Sullivan is looking to stand up but Machine won't let him.
Sullivan seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Sullivan is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Machine is trying to control the position but Sullivan postures up.
Machine tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Sullivan avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Sullivan throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Machine tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Sullivan is in Machine's guard.

Machine working for submissions but it's allowed Sullivan to get to half guard.
Machine wants to control but Sullivan is keeping busy.
Sullivan content to control rather than advance.

Sullivan wants to pass the guard but Machine is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Machine is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Machine won't allow Sullivan to pass to mount.

Machine is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Sullivan pulls his head out easily.

Sullivan is pressing down on Machine's thigh, looking to free his foot. Machine is holding on for now.
Machine might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Sullivan thows a huge punch but Machine dodges it nicely.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Machine tries to roll over but Sullivan keeps him under control.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Sullivan in particular looking to stall.
Sullivan wants to free his trapped foot but Machine is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sullivan not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Sullivan seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Machine throws a head kick that misses
and Sullivan counters with a stiff right hand.

Machine throws a body kick, spinning off balance
and Sullivan counters with an outside leg kick.
Machine gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Sullivan counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Sub Machine seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Machine doesn't manage to clinch there - Sullivan circles away.
Machine shoots in but no luck this time.
Sullivan is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Machine with a body shot.

Sullivan shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Machine's guard.

Machine has his foot on Sullivan's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Sullivan works his way back into a safe position though.

Sullivan has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.

Sullivan darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Machine holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Sullivan tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

Machine wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Sullivan.
Sullivan prevents Machine from getting the reversal.

Machine steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Sullivan. That one must have hurt.

Sullivan darts in and clinches Machine up against the cage.
Sullivan lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Machine backwards.

Machine breaks the clinch.

Sullivan shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Sullivan wants to finish this one by submission but Machine is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Sullivan.
Machine sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sullivan wants to stand up but Machine has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Machine wants to control but Sullivan is keeping busy.
Sullivan throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Sullivan passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Machine!
Sullivan throws a wild left hand from mount and Machine manages to wriggle his way back to half guard.
Danny Sullivan is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Machine wants to control but Sullivan passes into side.
Sullivan slows the pace down.
Sullivan tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Sullivan decides to stand back up.

Sullivan manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Machine on his heels. He'll look to pass Machine's guard now, I'm sure.

Well Sullivan has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

After the fight, Danny Sullivan was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
