PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ryan O Reilly (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Toshiro Kishimoto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). O Reilly's entrance music is Love For Money. A fine choice. Kishimoto has chosen Fighting dreamers as his entrance music. Ryan O Reilly has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ryan O Reilly!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Toshiro Kishimoto!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
O Reilly throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kishimoto's waist but Kishimoto gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing O Reilly off to one side.
Kishimoto with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Kishimoto fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
O Reilly avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
O Reilly keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
O Reilly shoots in and drives through. Kishimoto sprawls well.
Kishimoto thows a body shot but no joy.
A nice combination there by Kishimoto.
Kishimoto connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between O Reilly's hands.
No luck for O Reilly with that takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ryan O Reilly. That's going to take a lot out of him.
O Reilly lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Kishimoto circles away quickly and effectively.
Kishimoto shoots in looking for a takedown. O Reilly tries to sprawl out of it but Kishimoto keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. O Reilly manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Kishimoto changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Kishimoto connects with a single shot there.

Kishimoto swinging wilding here.
Horrible takedown by Kishimoto or perhaps it was just good defense by O Reilly which made him look bad.
Kishimoto throws the left hand but O Reilly avoids the punch easily.
Kishimoto is looking to clinch but O Reilly is avoiding it.
Kishimoto just misses with a punch to the body.
Kishimoto tries to clinch up.

Kishimoto decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
O Reilly keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
O Reilly regains full guard. Nicely done.
O Reilly is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Kishimoto is fighting to break O Reilly's control of his arms but O Reilly is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kishimoto trying to stand up but can't free himself from O Reilly's guard.
O Reilly is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Kishimoto slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
O Reilly will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Kishimoto looks gassed!
O Reilly is in close to Kishimoto's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Kishimoto really doesn't want to stay on the ground with O Reilly. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
O Reilly lands a couple of decent looking shots.

O Reilly trying to control but Kishimoto is working from the bottom.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Kishimoto can do anything to dispel that myth.
Kishimoto avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
O Reilly working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
O Reilly sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Kishimoto's guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. O Reilly connects with a nice short shot to Kishimoto's temple.
O Reilly is nestled in close to Kishimoto, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
O Reilly drops an elbow to the side of Kishimoto's head.
Kishimoto is in trouble now - O Reilly has advanced to mount!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
O Reilly lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Kishimoto hang on?

O Reilly looking for a guillotine from mount but Kishimoto is having none of it.
Kishimoto should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
O Reilly pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
O Reilly takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
O Reilly connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ryan O Reilly dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


O Reilly looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Kishimoto fails with the takedown

so O Reilly counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

O Reilly drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and O Reilly jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
O Reilly passes into half guard.
Kishimoto is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Still in half guard, O Reilly seems content to control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kishimoto tries to push off, looking to stand up, but O Reilly manages to move to mount!
O Reilly controlling his opponent.
O Reilly landing strikes from the mount.

O Reilly is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Kishimoto can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
O Reilly is landing with some decent strikes but Kishimoto is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Kishimoto is flailing around, obviously not happy about being mounted. O Reilly locks hold of one of his arms and spins for an armbar. He's got it! Kishimoto is forced to tap!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:28 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Ryan O Reilly!
