PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between King Rehel (ranked 4442 p4p, 6240 weight class) and Zimbe Yohimbe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Zimbe Yohimbe has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, King Rehel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Zimbe Yohimbe!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Gregory Folan and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yohimbe tries for a takedown but Rehel sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Rehel darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Rehel wants to free his trapped foot but Yohimbe is holding on for dear life with his legs.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Yohimbe is looking to improve his position.
Rehel will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Rehel connects with a nice short shot to Yohimbe's temple.
Yohimbe is pressing down on Rehel's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Rehel really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rehel looking to sit in guard and control but Yohimbe gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Yohimbe pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Rehel is keeping the position for now.

Yohimbe wants to stand but Rehel has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Yohimbe slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Let's hope that Yohimbe has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Yohimbe accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Yohimbe tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Rehel swivels and escapes.
Rehel shoots in looking for a takedown. Yohimbe tries to sprawl out of it but Rehel keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Yohimbe manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Yohimbe moves into the clinch.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Yohimbe lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.

Rehel shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Yohimbe is trying to defend but Rehel finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Rehel is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Rehel keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Yohimbe is looking to improve his position.
Yohimbe is trying to stand back up but Rehel is controlling him

Yohimbe manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Rehel manages to get himself to full guard.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Rehel is looking to work some ground and pound but Yohimbe has wrist control.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Yohimbe holds on and takes a little breather.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Rehel closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Rehel lands in his opponent's guard.

Rehel throws a strike but Yohimbe rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Rehel wants to sweep here but Yohimbe controlling him for the moment.
Rehel is trying to keep Yohimbe in close.

Yohimbe is looking to take a break and control but Rehel is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Yohimbe is taking a breather. Rehel says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Rehel manages to get to full guard.

Rehel is trying hard to land a takedown here. Yohimbe sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Yohimbe unleashes a big counter combination but Rehel bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Yohimbe avoids the body shot from Rehel.
A looping hook to the body misses from Rehel. Yohimbe does a little dance to reset his feet.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that King Rehel will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Yohimbe drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Rehel takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Rehel bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!

and Yohimbe counters with a single leg into guard. Rehel didn't expect that.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Rehel manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Rehel tries to score a body lock takedown but Yohimbe shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Yohimbe can't break the clinch.

Yohimbe turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Yohimbe manages to end up in side control.
Rehel is looking for a sweep.
Yohimbe wants to stand but Rehel has his arm trapped.

Rehel is trying to control Yohimbe's posture but Yohimbe avoids it.
Yohimbe wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rehel keeps working.
Rehel tries to improve position but can't.

Yohimbe is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Rehel has escaped the position, nice work there.
Rehel tries to get back to half guard but can't.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Rehel pushes Yohimbe away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Yohimbe gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Yohimbe tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Yohimbe circles away from the clinch attempt.
Yohimbe shoots in for a takedown but Rehel shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Rehel lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Rehel throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Rehel looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Yohimbe is fending him off so far but Rehel persists. Nope, Yohimbe circles away and we're back to standing.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Rehel pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Rehel fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for King Rehel. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Rehel tries for a takedown but Yohimbe circles away easily

so Yohimbe counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Yohimbe is standing up over Rehel. Rehel looks to escape but Yohimbe dives into side control.

Yohimbe scores with a couple of short elbows.
Rehel is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Yohimbe staying calm.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Rehel can't do much from the bottom here.
Rehel is not content to let Yohimbe control the position.
Rehel tries to buck Yohimbe off but Yohimbe is having none of it.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Zimbe Yohimbe.
I think Yohimbe has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
