PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jonny Romero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yusuke Kanehara (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Romero comes to the cage accompanied by cant stop now. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jonny Romero!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Yusuke Kanehara!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Yukihiro Shimada and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kanehara closes the distance and clinches up with Romero, looking for a takedown. Kanehara pushes Romero against the cage but Romero circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Romero fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Romero throws a right and a left that both miss.
Kanehara slips a jab and a cross from Romero.

Romero swats away the attempt to clinch by Kanehara.
Kanehara looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Romero misses with the combination.
Romero lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Kanehara circles away quickly and effectively.
Romero misses with a wild combination.
Kanehara tries to bum rush Romero with a series of wild strikes but Romero uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Romero throws a left and a right that both miss

and Kanehara counters by clinching up.
Kanehara looks gassed!
Romero wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Romero wants to break free but Kanehara has control.

Kanehara has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Romero uses from the top position.
Kanehara has a closed guard, preventing Romero from standing up.

Romero would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Kanehara not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Romero wants to get up but he can't break Kanehara's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Romero will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Romero swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Kanehara counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Romero's guard now.

Kanehara is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Romero is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Kanehara is controlling him.

Kanehara gets to his feet. Romero looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Romero throws a combination that misses

and Kanehara counters with a takedown into side control.

Kanehara decides to stand back up. Kanehara steps back and let's Romero get back to his feet.
Romero falls off balance throwing a combination

and Kanehara counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Kanehara.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kanehara stops Romero from standing up.

Kanehara decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Romero, up you get!
Kanehara cracks Romero with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Romero throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Kanehara counters with a takedown into side control.
Kanehara has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Romero wants to try and get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kanehara looking to control and managing it successfully.
Romero really wants to buck Kanehara off and get back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Kanehara cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Romero is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Kanehara controlling the pace for now.
Kanehara won't let Romero get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Romero takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Romero is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
Romero is trying to stand but he's just given Kanehara his back.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Romero wants to get back to his feet.
Romero knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kanehara on the ground.
Kanehara lands shots from the back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Yusuke Kanehara dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

and Kanehara counters with a nice double leg into side control. Romero won't be happy with that.
Romero tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
Yusuke Kanehara has got the better of the ground game so far.

Kanehara has isolated one of Romero's arms. Romero looking to fight him off but Kanehara twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!
