PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between BJ Trent (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tommy Callahan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Trent comes into the arena with kick your ass blaring out of the sound system. Tommy Callahan has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, BJ Trent!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tommy Callahan!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, George Francis and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
An inside leg kick lands from Callahan.
Trent checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Trent stuffs the takedown attempt from Callahan. Callahan gets slowly back to his feet.

Trent feints and as Callahan raises his hands in defense, Trent changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Trent might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Trent wants to control from the top but Callahan keeps moving.
Callahan wants to stand but Trent is controlling the position.
Callahan keeping full guard, as Trent tries to pass.
Trent is breathing heavily.

Callahan looking for a guillotine here but Trent defends easily.
Trent stops Callahan from standing up.

Trent won't allow Callahan to sweep him here.
Trent has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Trent postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Trent wants to stand but Callahan is controlling his posture from full guard.
Callahan utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Callahan wants to get back to his feet but Trent is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
No luck for Trent with that takedown attempt.
Callahan chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Callahan misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Callahan bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Callahan looks up at the clock and then as Trent takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Callahan smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Callahan tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Callahan has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Callahan cracks Trent with a big elbow.
Trent wants to control but Callahan postures up.
Trent tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Trent is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Callahan asserts his dominance and retains side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Trent tries to bench press Callahan off him but Callahan keeps the position.
Trent struggling a bit here.
Trent is looking for a sweep.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Callahan pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Trent throws a sloppy head kick

and Callahan counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Callahan.
Trent is pressed up against the cage. Callahan has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Trent down to the mat. Trent avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Callahan throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Trent.

Callahan darts in and clinches Trent up against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tommy Callahan dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Callahan goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Tommy Callahan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Trent shoots in and drives through. Callahan sprawls well.
Callahan lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Callahan.
Callahan's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Callahan duly obliges.

Callahan closes the distance and clinches.

Trent tries a head kick but it misses.
Callahan lands a right hook to the body.
Callahan throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Trent.
Callahan fails with a takedown attempt.

Callahan shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Trent wants to get back to full guard.

Trent is not content to let Callahan control the position.
Trent is looking for a sweep. Callahan is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Trent is looking to escape.
Trent is trying to get back to full guard.
Trent has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Callahan is working away from the top position though.
Trent tries to get to full guard but Callahan has control of the leg.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Trent is working hard here to advance position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Callahan fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Callahan misses with a double jab.

Callahan moves into the clinch.
Callahan drops down looking for an ankle pick but Trent pulls his leg out and moves away.
Callahan keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Callahan drives through with a takedown into guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Trent is looking to stand up but Callahan isn't so interested in that idea.
Trent wants to sweep here but Callahan controlling him for the moment.

Callahan gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
BJ Trent is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Callahan lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

and Callahan moves into the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for BJ Trent. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Trent fails to pull guard.

Callahan has picked Trent up - he's going for a ride! Callahan dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Trent is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Trent is trying to stand.
Callahan lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Callahan content to control rather than advance.
Trent tries to roll over but Callahan keeps him under control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tommy Callahan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Trent's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!



Callahan drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Trent thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Callahan loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Trent is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Callahan wants to control from the top but Trent keeps moving.

Callahan working over Trent with some ground and pound. Trent looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Trent tries to get to full guard but Callahan has control of the leg.
Trent is staying active underneath Callahan, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Trent has a hand on Callahan's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Callahan takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
Callahan has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Trent's face.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Callahan with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Trent is squirming around, avoiding Callahan's attempts to control the action.
Callahan postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Trent looks a forlorn figure.

Tommy Callahan comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Callahan has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
