The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Guthrie shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Palhares napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Palhares is not content to let Guthrie control the position.
Palhares could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Palhares is looking for a sweep.
Palhares trying to remain calm as Guthrie controls from the top position.
Palhares regains half guard.
Guthrie trying to control the action but Palhares is working from the bottom.
Palhares wants to get back to full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Guthrie wants to take a breather but Palhares is having none of it.

Guthrie is working for a submission of some sort.

Guthrie really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Palhares. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Guthrie wants to control from the top but Palhares keeps moving.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Guthrie accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Palhares pushes a forearm under Guthrie's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Guthrie is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
