Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between David McDonald (ranked 1217 p4p, 402 weight class) and Raate Road (ranked 161 p4p, 65 weight class). Road has chosen For Heavy Metal we will die! as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Percy O'Donnell and Timothy Bukovac.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McDonald closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Road's guard.

Road is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
McDonald distracts Road with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
McDonald controlling from the top position.
McDonald advances position into side control!
Road takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Road can't do much from the bottom here.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

McDonald postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Road is trying to stick to McDonald's back but McDonald is turning into Road. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Road's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by McDonald.

McDonald trying to control the position from guard on top but Road is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Road avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
McDonald sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Road's guard.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
McDonald is just content to waste time from the top position. Road takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

A close round but Raate Road will probably get the nod.

McDonald takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Raate Road seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Road's corner calls for a 1-2. Road obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Road lands a straight punch to the body, keeping McDonald at a distance.
Raate Road is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

McDonald doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Road has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Road uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before McDonald has time to react.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

McDonald fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Road is out of range.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Road crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from McDonald - the referee stops the clock and Road gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says McDonald. Road manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
McDonald takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
McDonald pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Road avoids the body shot from McDonald.
Raate Road seems to be getting the better of the standup.
McDonald slips under a jab from Road.
Road looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
And McDonald counters with a quick kick to the body but Road blocks it.

and McDonald counters with a nice double leg into guard.
We've been hearing good reports from McDonald's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Road is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
McDonald throws a big right hand that misses.

Road has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but McDonald can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

McDonald was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
McDonald takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Road throws an overhand right that lands on McDonald's shoulder, as McDonald tries to avoid the shot.
McDonald goes for a double leg but Road avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Road continues to drive forward.

McDonald has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Road is trying to keep an underhook but McDonald manages to get the takedown into half guard.

I would just about give that final round to Raate Road.
