PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Raheem Jarrett (ranked 4656 p4p, 6262 weight class) and Brenton Sanders (ranked 258 p4p, 322 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Raheem Jarrett!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brenton Sanders!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Joseph Jones and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jarrett shoots in looking for a takedown. Sanders tries to sprawl out of it but Jarrett keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Sanders manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Sanders is defended easily by Jarrett.
Jarrett connects with a crisp jab.
Jarrett will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
No luck for Sanders with that takedown attempt.
Sanders looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.

We've been told by Jarrett's head coaches at RED BELT ACADEMY that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Jarrett is looking to clinch but Sanders is avoiding it.
Sanders changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Jarrett throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Sanders tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Jarrett manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

As Sanders looks to move away, Jarrett throws a big counter combo but Sanders just gets out of the way.

Sanders darts in looking for a takedown but Jarrett gets double underhooks and turns Sanders into the cage.

Jarrett shoots in looking for a takedown but Sanders manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Jarrett's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Jarrett fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Sanders manages to avoid it.
Jarrett bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Jarrett pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Jarrett doesn't manage to clinch there - Sanders circles away.
Sanders tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Sanders walks forward, straight into a front kick from Jarrett.

Sanders drives through and clinches with Jarrett against the cage.
Sanders drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Sanders breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Jarrett tries to close the distance and clinch up but Sanders swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Sanders tries for a takedown but Jarrett sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Jarrett throws a counter high kick but Sanders was just alert enough to avoid it.
Sanders looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Jarrett is fending him off so far but Sanders persists. Nope, Jarrett circles away and we're back to standing.
Jarrett stuffs the takedown attempt from Sanders. Sanders gets slowly back to his feet.

That was a close second round but I would say that Raheem Jarrett will probably get the nod.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Sanders enables Jarrett to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Sanders manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Sanders is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sanders flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Sanders really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jarrett. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Jarrett wants to stand up but Sanders has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Sanders wants to get back to full guard.
Sanders tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Jarrett lands with a slapping head kick.
Sanders defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Jarrett.

Sanders has managed to clinch.

Sanders is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Jarrett to keep the fight standing.

Sanders tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Jarrett avoids it.

Sanders escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Jarrett gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Jarrett gets a clinch.
Jarrett is trying to break the clinch but Sanders has him pressed against the cage.
Raheem Jarrett is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Sanders tries to pull guard but Jarrett holds him up against the cage and eventually Sanders drops back down to his feet.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sanders gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Jarrett.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Jarrett, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
