PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Zoe Jab (ranked 6867 p4p, 4388 weight class) and David Kozma (ranked 0 p4p, 509 weight class). Zoe Jab had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Zoe Jab!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, David Kozma!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Skip Squint and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jab is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Kozma.
Kozma misses with a takedown attempt - Jab sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
It looked like Jab was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Kozma lands with a straight right. Jab didn't see that one coming.
Jab definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Kozma shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Jab napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Kozma decides to stand up, so the ref orders Jab to his feet.
Jab throws a right hand that Kozma ducks under and follows up with a left that Kozma also avoids with ease.

Kozma shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Jab wants to stand but Kozma is controlling the position.
Jab keeping moving, preventing Kozma from controlling successfully.
Jab trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

Jab has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Kozma really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jab. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Kozma stops Jab from standing up.
Jab looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Jab throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Jab is pulling down on Kozma's head. It's preventing any offense from Kozma, at least for the moment.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Kozma in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Kozma throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Jab's waist but Jab gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kozma off to one side.
Jab is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Jab looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
David Kozma seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kozma throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Jab defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Kozma.
Zoe Jab has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of David Kozma.
Kozma delivers a nice body kick.

Jab scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Jab thows a huge punch but Kozma dodges it nicely.

Kozma is looking to stand back up but Jab counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Kozma.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jab is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Jab stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Jab swats away the attempt to clinch by Kozma.
Jab seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but David Kozma will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Jab looking for a takedown.
Jab jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Kozma walks away with a smile on his face. Jab gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Jab shoots in and bounces Kozma off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jab trying to control the position from guard on top but Kozma is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Kozma utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Kozma looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Jab puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Jab decides to stand up.

Jab closes the distance and clinches.
Kozma managing to block the knees to the body from Jab.

Jab manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Kozma throwing strikes but missing.
Jab manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Kozma manages to get himself to full guard.

Jab controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Jab prevents Kozma from getting back to his feet.
Jab loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Jab is pushing down on Kozma's leg trying to pass to half guard. Kozma is fighting to maintain full guard but Jab has managed to sneak the leg through.

Jab is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Kozma has managed to free his arm - good work.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Kozma fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Jab, pushing him back against the cage.

Jab manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Kozma throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Jab works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kozma accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Kozma is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Kozma wants to control from the top but Jab keeps moving.
Kozma must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The fight stays on the outside here - Kozma looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Kozma tries to clinch but Jab moves out of range.

Kozma fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
David Kozma seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Jab shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kozma but Kozma pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Kozma wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Jab has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Kozma uses from the top position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Kozma got a little sloppy there for a moment and Jab has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Kozma has managed to get both his arms back between Jab's legs - danger averted.
Jab is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Kozma is looking to escape.
Kozma tries to get to full guard but Jab has control of the leg.

Kozma takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Jab prevents Kozma from getting the reversal.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Jab lands a big elbow.
Kozma is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Jab looking to control but Kozma is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Jab is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Kozma is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Kozma is desperately trying to improve his position but Jab has a good base and remains in mount.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Zoe Jab.
I think Jab has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
