Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joe Thorton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Heyward Bey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thorton keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Bey fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Thorton throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Thorton looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Thorton circles away from the clinch attempt.
Thorton throws a right hand that Bey ducks under and follows up with a left that Bey also avoids with ease.
Bey needs to keep his hands up - Thorton had a free shot at his head there.


It looks like Heyward Bey has been cut.
Thorton throws a front kick aimed at Bey's knee but Bey avoids it well.
Jab, jab by Thorton - just one landing.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Bey tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Thorton swivels and escapes.

Bey turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Bey manages to end up in side control.

Bey wants to control but Thorton is keeping him busy.
Thorton tries to escape but Bey is in control.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Thorton tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Bey wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Thorton wants to get back to his feet but Bey drags him back down.
Bey is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Thorton's shoulder. That is not cool.
Bey has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
The ground and pound from Bey seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Bey shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Thorton misses with a few strikes there.

Bey tries to pass the half guard into mount. Thorton knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Bey is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Thorton has managed to free his arm - good work.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Bey looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Bey trying to control from half guard but Thorton is working away.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Thorton wants to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on Heyward Bey's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Bey moves in looking to clinch but Thorton pushes him off.
Bey misses with a kick to the body.
Bey throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Thorton dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Thorton cracks the inside of Bey's front leg.
Thorton scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.

Bey stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Thorton.
Thorton throws a right hand that Bey ducks under and follows up with a left that Bey also avoids with ease.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Thorton digs a good body shot into Bey's ribs.
Thorton throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Bey.

Bey has Thorton pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Thorton manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Thorton wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Bey has him pressed against the cage.
Thorton is looking to break free of the clinch but Bey has double underhooks.
Bey tries a knee to the head but Thorton blocks it.
A right handed body shot lands from Bey.

Thorton stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bey swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Thorton gets to his feet. Bey looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Thorton, as that shot connected.
Bey misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Thorton throws a left and a right that both miss

and Bey counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Thorton's guard now.

Bey gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bey uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Thorton.
No joy there for Thorton, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Bey tries a head kick but it misses.
Thorton misses with a double jab
and Bey counters with an outside leg kick.
Thorton throws a right and a left that Bey avoids nicely.
Nice sprawl there from Thorton as Bey shoots in.

Bey shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Bey is landing with some decent strikes but Thorton is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Heyward Bey showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Bey wants to clinch up but Thorton keeps it at a distance.

Bey moves into range and clinches up with Thorton.
Thorton is pressed up against the cage. Bey has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Thorton down to the mat. Thorton avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Thorton lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Bey changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Thorton tries to avoid it but Bey manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Thorton to the ground. Thorton escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Bey shoots for a double leg takedown but Thorton sprawls well. He's pushed Bey's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Bey shoots in looking for a takedown. Thorton tries to sprawl out of it but Bey keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Thorton manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Joe Thorton.
I think Thorton has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
