Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Raphael Gomes (ranked 2253 p4p, 2559 weight class) and Hey Zues (ranked 283 p4p, 321 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Zues stalks Gomes and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Gomes's face. Gomes staggers backwards, shaken.

Gomes looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.

Zues feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Zues really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gomes. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
