PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kai Aikau (ranked 4346 p4p, 5061 weight class) and Gancho Ganevski (ranked 531 p4p, 578 weight class). Aikau comes to the cage accompanied by Jack Johnson - Upside Down. Gancho Ganevski told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Kai Aikau!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 14 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Gancho Ganevski!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Matti Vanhoillinen and Ben Zyskovitsi.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ganevski instigates a clinch.
Ganevski works on Aikau's body with a couple of short punches.
Nice body punch from Ganevski - that landed with a thud.
Ganevski makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.

Ganevski escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Ganevski drops Aikau with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Aikau looks back up at him and smiles so Ganevski waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.

It looks like Kai Aikau has been cut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Ganevski rushes Aikau and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Ganevski works on Aikau's body with a couple of short punches.
Aikau is breathing heavily.

Ganevski manages to pull guard.
Ganevski looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Ganevski wants to stand up but Aikau is controlling him.
Aikau has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.

Aikau trying to control the position from guard on top but Ganevski is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Ganevski is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Aikau is controlling him.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Ganevski is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Ganevski fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Aikau, pushing him back against the cage.

Aikau prevents Ganevski from getting back to his feet.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Aikau wanted to stand there but Ganevski had control of the position.
Aikau stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ganevski swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Ganevski is looking to stand up but Aikau isn't so interested in that idea.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Ganevski lands a leg kick that knocks Aikau off balance momentarily.
Aikau finds himself stumbling back on wobbly legs after being clipped by a right hand. He's up against the cage, ducking and weaving under Ganevski's strikes but an uppercut finds it's way through and Aikau falls! - He's completely out of it and the ref jumps in to save him!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Gancho Ganevski!
A very excited looking Gancho Ganevski made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
Kai Aikau spoke after the fight, saying 'No aloha.'.
