PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jaz Moore (ranked 6553 p4p, 3732 weight class) and Mapple Syrup (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jaz Moore!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mapple Syrup!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Percy O'Donnell and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sloppy strikes from Syrup. Those never looked like landing.
Moore looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!

Syrup is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Moore's half guard.
Moore punching from the bottom.
Moore regains full guard. Nicely done.
Syrup is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Syrup passes Moore's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Syrup is controlling the pace.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Moore trying to hold on to Syrup's head to control him but Syrup postures up.

Syrup wants to stand but Moore has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Syrup controlling the pace.
Moore wants to control the action here but instead Syrup manages to pass to full mount!
Moore is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Syrup working away from the top, dropping strikes.

Syrup controlling the position easily from mount.
Syrup's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Syrup lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Moore hang on?
Moore is desperately trying to improve his position but Syrup has a good base and remains in mount.
Syrup tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
A nice elbow there by Syrup.
Syrup looking to control and managing it successfully.
Moore tries to lock up and control but Syrup gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Syrup fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Syrup takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Moore wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
Our spies down at at Cozad MMA Montreal inform us that Syrup has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?

Syrup has the hooks in. Moore is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Syrup is riding his opponent, not letting Moore buck him off.
It looks like Syrup might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Syrup looking for the choke from the back.
Syrup has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Moore tries to break free.
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Mapple Syrup dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Syrup has closed the distance and engaged Moore in a clinch.

Moore escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Donk. Syrup catches Moore right on the button with a cross.
That kick from Syrup tenderised Moore's leg. Moore is trying to keep his angry face on.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Syrup clinches up with Moore and pushes him back against the cage.

Syrup breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Horrible takedown attempt by Moore or perhaps it was just good defense by Syrup, which made it look bad.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Syrup feints and as Moore raises his hands in defense, Syrup changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Moore has his foot on Syrup's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Syrup works his way back into a safe position though.
Syrup is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Moore wants to sweep here but Syrup controlling him for the moment.

Syrup wants to stand but Moore is controlling his posture from full guard.
Syrup is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.
Syrup slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Moore enables Syrup to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Moore manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Moore has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Syrup has passed into side control.
Syrup just content to control the position.
Syrup has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Syrup tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Syrup content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

Syrup tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Syrup has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Moore is looking to regain half guard here but Syrup keeps moving and retains side control.
Moore gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

Syrup working for a guillotine from mount but Moore is in no mood to give up.
Syrup tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Moore tries to hold on but Syrup postures up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Mapple Syrup showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Syrup throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Moore was covering up waiting for the punch and Syrup finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Syrup passes Moore's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Syrup is thwarting Moore's attempts to control the position.
Moore on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Syrup has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Syrup wants to stand but Moore is holding on to him, trying to stop him posturing up.
Moore can't escape the position.
Syrup scores with a couple of good head shots there.

Moore tries to hold on but Syrup postures up.
Syrup in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.

Syrup is trying to stand up but he's being controlled by his opponent.
Syrup is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Moore can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Syrup tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Syrup looking to finish Moore with some ground and pound. This is bad for Moore!
Moore takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Moore tries to lock up and control but Syrup gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Jaz Moore has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Syrup cracks Moore with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Syrup lands a heavy elbow.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Syrup sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Moore keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mapple Syrup comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Syrup has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
