The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Barnes has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Thorsby has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off.

Thorsby does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Barnes wants to get back to striking at distance but Thorsby won't allow it.

and Barnes counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Thorsby is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Barnes had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into mush.

Thorsby drives through and clinches with Barnes against the cage.
Barnes tries to break free but Thorsby pushes him back against the cage.
A battle for position here, against the cage.
Thorsby lands a right hand.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Barnes escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Thorsby will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Thorsby misses with a straight left.
Thorsby scores with a hook to the body. Barnes takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Thorsby throws a leg kick but Barnes moved away.
Barnes tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Thorsby is able to avoid easily.
Thorsby now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
Barnes misses with a left hand
letting Thorsby counter with a right hand.
Barnes's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Thorsby connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Barnes scrambles back to his feet.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Svend Thorsby will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
