PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Eli Goode (ranked 6588 p4p, 25217 weight class) and Genji Masamune (ranked 679 p4p, 714 weight class). Genji Masamune told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Genji Masamune!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Yukihiro Shimada and Shigeki Fujiwara.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Goode just misses with a punch to the body.
A countering left hand to the body from Masamune misses.
Goode swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Masamune misses with a low kick.
Goode wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Goode looks to land a right hand but Masamune moved out of range.
Goode circles away from the clinch attempt.
Masamune closes this distance looking for a takedown but Goode circles away.
Goode looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
A combination from Goode does no damage.
Goode throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

Masamune pushes Goode up against the cage in a clinch.
Goode wants to break free but Masamune has control.
Goode misses with a body punch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Goode lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Masamune.
Goode prevents a takedown attempt there.
Masamune tries to land knees in the clinch but Goode avoids the damage to the body.

Goode lands with a left to the head.

Goode escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Eli Goode is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Goode drops Masamune with a beautiful combination! Masamune stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Goode is looking for the KO!

It looks like Genji Masamune has been cut.
Goode misses with a looping left.
Goode scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.

Masamune is rocked!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Goode misses with the combination.
Goode throws a series of punches but Masamune moves out of range.
Masamune scores with a crisp jab that stopped Goode in his tracks.
Eli Goode seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A big right from Goode misses.
Goode throws a lazy right hand but Masamune sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Masamune keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Masamune clinches with his opponent.

Goode's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Masamune bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Masamune is defended easily by Goode.
Eli Goode has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Genji Masamune.

Goode scores with a jab to the jaw.
Goode misses with a body shot.
Masamune shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Goode as he jumps to the side.
Masamune swinging wildly here.
Goode connects with a body shot that sends Masamune's belly button to the back.
Masamune staying out of range there.

Goode feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Masamune sprawling to the canvas! Masamune rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Goode finish him?!
Masamune is still on wobbly legs! Can Goode finish him?

Masamune rushes Goode and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Masamune is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Goode throws a big uppercut that drops Masamune! More strikes from Goode and the referee jumps in to stop the fight! Masamune lies dazed against the cage as Goode celebrates with his cornermen!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:08 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Eli Goode!
