Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Pierre Ragout Mendy (ranked 1489 p4p, 1811 weight class) and Yoji Anjo Anjo (ranked 204 p4p, 228 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Pierre Ragout Mendy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Yoji Anjo Anjo!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Wagner Zegers and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendy throws a hook but Anjo avoids it easily.
Anjo fails with an attempt to clinch.

Anjo gets the takedown into side control.

Mendy throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
Anjo keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Mendy moves out of range as Anjo throws a body kick.
Mendy tries to counter with a takedown but Anjo is quick to defend against it.
Anjo shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Anjo displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Mendy.
Anjo is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Anjo shoots in looking for a takedown but Mendy manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Anjo's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Anjo tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Anjo throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

and Mendy counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Mendy stands up over Anjo, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Mendy passes Anjo's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Mendy is taking a breather. Anjo says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Anjo wants to get back to his feet.
Mendy keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Mendy lands with a punch from half guard.
Anjo on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Mendy wants to pass to mount but Anjo is defending the position.
Mendy is trying to control. Anjo wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

We've been hearing that Mendy has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Mendy wants to take a breather but Anjo is having none of it.
Anjo is trying to control but can't.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Mendy connects with a nice short shot to Anjo's temple.

Anjo has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.

Anjo is staying active underneath Mendy, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Mendy looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Anjo with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Mendy slips a nice elbow through Anjo's hands, connecting with Anjo's forehead.
Anjo is trying to maintain the position but Mendy is very close to passing his half guard.

Mendy wants to free his trapped foot but Anjo is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Anjo has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Mendy is working away from the top position though.

Pierre Ragout Mendy dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Mendy throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Mendy cracks Anjo with a good jab.
Mendy swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Anjo shoots in for a takedown but Mendy shows good takedown defense.
Mendy feinted with a counter takedown.

Anjo closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Mendy lands a takedown into guard.
Anjo is trying to keep Mendy in close.
Anjo keeping moving, preventing Mendy from controlling successfully.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mendy lands a couple of digs.
Anjo is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Anjo working for a triangle but Mendy defends it easily.
Mendy has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Mendy not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Mendy accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Mendy stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Anjo swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Anjo is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Anjo fails with an attempt to clinch.

Mendy is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Mendy seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Mendy takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
You can see the frustration on Mendy's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Mendy is in a bad spot here and he knows it... just holding on for now.
Anjo wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mendy keeps working.
Anjo tries to score with some ground and pound. Mendy controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Anjo grinds an elbow into Mendy's temple.
Anjo misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Mendy tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Anjo is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Mendy has escaped the position, nice work there.

Anjo decides to stand back up. Anjo steps back and let's Mendy get back to his feet.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Yoji Anjo Anjo will probably get the nod - 10:9.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Anjo dodges the punch combination from Mendy.
Mendy ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Anjo moves away.
Mendy looks to land a right hand but Anjo moved out of range.
Anjo throws a leg kick but Mendy sees it coming and moves out of range.
Anjo wants to clinch up but Mendy keeps it at a distance.
Anjo tries to close the distance and clinch up but Mendy swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Anjo tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Mendy paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Mendy stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Anjo dives in for a single leg takedown but Mendy sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Mendy feints and as Anjo raises his hands in defense, Mendy changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mendy connects with a couple of short punches.
Mendy wants to control from the top but Anjo keeps moving.
Mendy with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Mendy looking to sit in guard and control but Anjo gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Mendy has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Anjo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mendy swivels though and keeps the full guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Mendy has his hands on Anjo's head, controlling the position.
Mendy is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Mendy thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Anjo's head.
Anjo is trying to stand up here but Mendy is controlling him well.

Anjo is pulling down on Mendy's head. It's preventing any offense from Mendy, at least for the moment.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

I think Mendy has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Pierre Ragout Mendy really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that Altitude Clothing logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
