PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Michal Materlak (ranked 1844 p4p, 1797 weight class) and Moshe Weiss (ranked 243 p4p, 233 weight class). Materlak comes to the cage accompanied by Marzenia. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Michal Materlak!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Moshe Weiss!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, John Kavanagh and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Materlak scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Materlak misses with an attempted mid kick.
Weiss feints the counter takedown.
Michal Materlak seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Materlak throws an off balance right hand

and Weiss counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Weiss.
Materlak is trying to control the position but Weiss postures up.
Weiss controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Materlak throws out a loose jab but Weiss uses good head movement to avoid it.

Weiss stops Materlak from getting back to his feet.
Weiss wants to pass to mount but Materlak is defending the position.
Materlak is refusing to be controlled, as Weiss sits in half guard.

Weiss is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Weiss is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Weiss is trying to control. Materlak wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Materlak is looking for a sweep. Weiss is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

and Weiss decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Materlak's guard.

Materlak has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Weiss off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Weiss shoots in but no luck this time.
Weiss moves out of range of the strikes.
Weiss lands a jab.
Materlak goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Weiss closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.

Materlak scores with a jab. Weiss acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Weiss.
Materlak feinted there with a counter leg kick.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Weiss bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Jab, jab by Materlak - just one landing.
Good standup being displayed there by Weiss as he connects with a hook.
Materlak throws a hook to the side of Weiss's head but Weiss sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
A low kick from Materlak is predictable there

and Weiss counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Weiss won't allow Materlak to sweep him here.
Weiss stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Materlak swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Weiss is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Materlak has escaped the position, nice work there.
Materlak tries to buck Weiss off but Weiss is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Weiss moves into full mount!
Materlak keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Weiss throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Materlak because Weiss loaded up on that one.
Weiss wants to control the pace but Materlak is squirming around nicely.

Weiss goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Materlak turns into him and now he's in Weiss's guard.
Materlak wants to stand but Weiss is controlling his posture from full guard.

Weiss had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Materlak defends it easily.
Materlak trying to control but Weiss is working from the bottom.

Weiss throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Materlak would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Weiss looking to control.

Weiss is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Weiss escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Materlak gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Weiss working for submissions but it's allowed Materlak to get to half guard.
Materlak tries to stand but can't do so whilst Weiss controls his leg.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Materlak is keen to just control but Weiss is a slippery customer.

Weiss is looking to regain half guard here but Materlak keeps moving and retains side control.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
