PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Max Mosley (ranked 4712 p4p, 4719 weight class) and Brad Betts (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Max Mosley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Brad Betts!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Ben Zyskovitsi and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mosley moves into the clinch.
Betts wants to break the clinch but can't.

Mosley escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Betts checks a leg kick.
Betts is looking for the big counter here.

Mosley closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Mosley sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Betts is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Mosley taking a breather here.
Betts is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Mosley asserts his dominance and retains side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mosley stands up.

Betts has managed to clinch.

Betts wants to break the clinch but can't.
A frustrated look appears on Betts's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Mosley's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Betts is trying to break free.

Mosley breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Betts is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Betts moves into the clinch successfully.
Betts is trying to break the clinch but Mosley is controlling him.
Betts wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Betts's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Mosley shoots in and gets a takedown into Betts's guard.
Betts wants to stand and escape but Mosley is having none of it.
Mosley pushing down on Betts's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

Mosley is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Betts tries to kick Mosley off but Mosley keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Mosley content to control rather than advance.

Mosley seems to be working for a kimura but Betts defends the submission attempt.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Betts is trying to stand back up but Mosley is controlling him
Mosley landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Betts really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mosley. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Mosley not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Mosley escapes and gets back to his feet.
Betts tries to close the distance and clinch but Mosley swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Mosley seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.

Mosley fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Betts, pushing him back against the cage.
Mosley stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Mosley lands a takedown into guard.

Betts wriggles free and stands up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Betts gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Betts wants to get back to his feet but Mosley is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Mosley distracts Betts with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Betts wants to get back to his feet but Mosley passes into half guard.

Mosley is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Mosley slips a nice elbow through Betts's hands, connecting with Betts's forehead.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Max Mosley dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Betts is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Mosley tries to counter with a takedown but Betts is quick to defend against it.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Mosley.
Max Mosley is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
No joy there for Betts, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Mosley clinches.
Betts working hard to break the clinch.

Mosley has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Betts uses from the top position.
Betts won't allow Mosley to get back to his feet.

Betts is looking to stand up but Mosley won't let him.

Mosley is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.
Mosley manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Betts manages to get himself to full guard.

Mosley sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Mosley is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Betts can do to turn this around?
Betts wants to stand and escape but Mosley is having none of it.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Mosley seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Betts is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Mosley dives into side control.

Betts bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
Betts loads up on a big right hand but Mosley slips the punch.

Mosley looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Betts!
Betts pushes Mosley away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Mosley gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Betts is breathing heavily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Mosley has hold of Betts's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Betts seems comfortable defending it but Mosley has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Betts is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Betts is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Mosley couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:07 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Max Mosley!
