PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Greg Gregory (ranked 6428 p4p, 25230 weight class) and Jonathan Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 730 weight class). Jones has chosen God Gave Me Style as his entrance music. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Greg Gregory!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jonathan Jones!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Percy O'Donnell and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones throws a head kick but Gregory moves out of range.
Jones goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Gregory dives in for a single leg takedown but Jones sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Gregory works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gregory scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Gregory seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Jones is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Gregory is controlling him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gregory slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Jones pushes Gregory off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Gregory shoots in but Jones avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Jones is fighting off a takedown attempt but Gregory is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Jones to the mat. Jones regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gregory postures up in Jones's guard and throws a big left but Jones blocks it.

Jones pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Gregory fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Jones to the ground. Gregory is now in Jones's guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Jones wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Gregory manages to pass to side control.

Gregory seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Gregory tries to counter by clinching up but Jones breaks away and moves out of range.

That was a close second round but I would say that Greg Gregory will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Gregory sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

Gregory goes for an armbar but Jones turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Jones.
Jones tries to stand but Gregory is controlling from the bottom.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Jones gets to his feet - Gregory follows without any prompting.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jonathan Jones comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Jones has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
