The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Aafke Stam and Nard Betker.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Route ducks right into an uppercut from Backman.
Backman lands a front kick.
Backman with a nice cross.
A slow jab from Backman misses its intended target.
An attempted straight right counter from Route misses the target.
A telegraphed right hand from Backman misses the target.
Backman connects with a leg kick.
Route has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Cloud9 in the buildup to the fight.
Route displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Backman throws out the jab.
Route tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Backman drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Backman is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Route takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Backman cracks a nice hook into Route's ribs.

Route uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Backman.
Route appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Backman lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Backman.

It looks like En Route has been cut.

George Backman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Backman with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Route to score with a decent uppercut.

Backman closes the distance and lands a crisp combination that knocks Route out cold! Route corner are devastated, head in hands behind our commentary position. Poor guys.
