PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Poe Damron (ranked 4640 p4p, 25015 weight class) and Zoe Jab (ranked 573 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Poe Damron!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Zoe Jab!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Edson Gomes and Emerson Jorge.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Damron darts in and clinches Jab up against the cage.
Jab avoiding damage as Damron throws knees to the body.
Jab takes a knee to the side of the body.

Damron breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Damron misses with a few strikes there.
Damron shoots in looking for a takedown but Jab manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Damron's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Damron shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Jab as he avoids it easily.
Damron swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Damron breaks from the clinch.

Damron forces Jab back against the cage and clinches.
Damron lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Jab misses with a punch to the body.
Still in the clinch, Damron scores with a nice short uppercut.
Jab looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Damron breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Damron is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Damron lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Jab backwards.

Damron's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Jab moves in looking to clinch but Damron pushes him off.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Damron escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Jab looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Damron is fending him off so far but Jab persists. Nope, Damron circles away and we're back to standing.
Damron catches Jab with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Damron keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Jab's efforts to push away.

Damron blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Damron fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Jab avoids it really well and circles away.

Damron shoots in looking for a takedown. Jab tries to sprawl out of it but Damron keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Jab manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Jab wants to clinch up but Damron keeps it at a distance.
Zoe Jab seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Damron closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Jab's guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Jab shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Damron has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Jab has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Jab tries to close the distance and clinch but Damron swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Damron is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Jab dives into side control.

Jab wants to lay and pray for a moment but Damron keeps working.

Jab is trying to control the action in half guard but Damron is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Poe Damron is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Damron is trying to stand up here but Jab is controlling him well.
Damron is staying active underneath Jab, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Jab wants to pass to mount but Damron is defending the position.
Zoe Jab has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
