Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jian Zhao (ranked 936 p4p, 1013 weight class) and Sunshine Okafor (ranked 122 p4p, 136 weight class). Zhao comes to the cage accompanied by GZA - Shadowboxin'. The crowd seem to be enjoying Okafor's choice of entrance music: Bliss. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 1, fighting out of New York, Jian Zhao!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sunshine Okafor!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Anthony Taglia and Jorge Garcia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zhao walks into a straight right hand from Okafor.
It looks like Jian Zhao has been cut.
Okafor misses with a hook.
Zhao swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Okafor.
It looks like Sunshine Okafor has been cut.
Zhao swings for the body but Okafor moves out of range.
Okafor throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Zhao sees it coming and avoids it easily.
An inside leg kick lands from Zhao.
Okafor loads up on a big right hand but Zhao slips the punch.
Zhao misses with a leg kick
and Okafor counters with a good, hard body kick but Zhao shrugs it off.
Zhao throws a looping overhand right but Okafor ducks down to avoid it.
Okafor moves out of range of the body kick from Zhao.
Zhao lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Okafor misses with a hook.
Okafor throws an overhand right that lands on Zhao's shoulder, as Zhao tries to avoid the shot.
It looked like Zhao wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Zhao throws a leg kick but Okafor moved away.

and Zhao counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Okafor throws a lazy right hand but Zhao sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Okafor jabs Zhao to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Zhao's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Okafor connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Zhao scrambles back to his feet.
Zhao throws a nice outside leg kick.
Zhao throws out a loose jab but Okafor uses good head movement to avoid it.
Zhao avoids the body shot from Okafor.
Okafor throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
An attempted straight right counter from Zhao misses the target.
Jian Zhao seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Zhao takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Zhao cracks a nice hook into Okafor's ribs.
Okafor has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Zhao has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Zhao there as he acknowledges the shot.

Okafor tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Zhao motions for Okafor to come forward. Zhao throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
A little jabbing left from Okafor on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Okafor cracks Zhao with an open hand slap.
A telegraphed right hand from Okafor misses the target.
Okafor stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Zhao.
Zhao ducks right into an uppercut from Okafor.
Jian Zhao's cut is getting worse.
Okafor just misses with a punch to the body.
Zhao throws a lazy uppercut
and Okafor counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Zhao slips under a jab from Okafor.
Zhao thows a left - swing and a miss!
Zhao throws a nice outside leg kick.
Okafor sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
Okafor tries to clinch but Zhao moves out of range.
Zhao lands a nice looking kick to the body. Okafor takes a step back to recover.
Okafor steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Zhao. That one must have hurt.
Okafor throws a hook but Zhao avoids it easily.
Okafor looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Zhao moves out of range as Okafor throws a body kick.
Zhao throws a body punch but Okafor moves out of range.
Okafor looks like he wanted to counter with a high kick but didn't throw it.
Zhao throws a lazy right hand but Okafor sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Zhao lands with a kick to the ribs.
Zhao jabs Okafor right on the nose. Okafor blinks but takes it well.
Okafor lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Zhao circles away quickly and effectively.
That's four minutes gone in the round.
Zhao fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Okafor.
Zhao is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

It looked like Zhao was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Okafor.
Okafor keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Okafor unleashes a big counter combination but Zhao bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Zhao throws a body kick that misses
and Okafor counters with a stiff right hand.
Okafor shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Zhao punishes Okafor's body with a nice straight punch.
Zhao moves out of range as Okafor throws a body kick.
Okafor tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Zhao connects with a looping right hand.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Okafor wants to counter the offense by Zhao and move into the clinch position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Jian Zhao will probably get the nod.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
The fighters circle momentarily. Zhao darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Okafor tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Zhao struggles to land a body shot inside as Okafor controls his hands.
I was talking to Zhao's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Zhao gets through Okafor's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Okafor fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Zhao blocks a body shot from Okafor.
Zhao doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Okafor digs a right hand into Zhao's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Zhao's gas tank.
Zhao is trying to push Okafor away but Okafor has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Zhao throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
Zhao lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Zhao pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Okafor throws a sloppy head kick and Zhao moves out of range easily.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Zhao looks to score with a jab to the body but Okafor is just out of range.
Zhao takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Zhao takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Okafor looks to clinch
and Zhao counters with a stiff right hand.
Zhao misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Okafor.
A decent looking cross lands there for Zhao.

Zhao delivers a nice body kick.
Zhao pounces like a tiger and cracks Okafor with a vicious hook! Okafor is down but not out! Zhao follows up with more strikes forcing the ref to jump in and stop it!

Our winner, Jian Zhao, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
