PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Hayden Allen (ranked 4682 p4p, 4684 weight class) and Walter Willow (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Hayden Allen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Walter Willow!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Chris Dean and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Willow looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Willow is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Allen throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Allen working for a triangle but Willow defends it easily.

Allen is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Willow avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Allen is trying to keep Willow in close.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.
Willow trying to control but Allen is working from the bottom.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Sloppy strikes from Allen. Those never looked like landing.

Willow changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Allen looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Allen throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
Willow tries to close the distance and clinch up but Allen swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Allen wants to clinch.

Allen misses with a takedown

and Willow moves into the clinch.

Willow lands a takedown into guard.

Allen wriggles free and stands up.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Willow takes the fight into the clinch.

Willow escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Willow leaves Allen with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Willow shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Allen is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Willow dives into side control.
Allen is breathing heavily.

You can see the frustration on Allen's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Allen tries to bench press Willow off him but Willow keeps the position.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Willow working away.
Allen tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Willow wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Willow has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Allen on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.

Allen shoots in but Willow avoids the takedown attempt easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hayden Allen. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Willow closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Allen quickly recovers to half guard.
Willow lands with a punch from half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Willow looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Willow controlling the pace.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Walter Willow will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Willow fails in his attempt to clinch.

Willow shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Allen's guard.
Allen wants to sweep but no luck.
Walter Willow has got the better of the ground game so far.
Willow pushing down on Allen's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Allen trying to hold on to Willow's head to control him but Willow postures up.
Willow is pressing down on Allen's thigh, looking to free his foot. Allen is holding on for now.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Willow is trying to control. Allen wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Willow escapes and gets back to his feet.

Willow changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Allen tries to avoid it but Willow manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Allen to the ground. Allen escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Allen tries to clinch up but Willow circles away and keeps his distance.
Willow throws a counter combo.
Allen takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

Allen pushes Willow up against the cage in a clinch.
Allen really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Allen with a knee to the head.

Willow pulls guard effortlessly.
Allen trying to control the position from guard on top but Willow is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Willow is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Willow manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Allen manages to get himself to full guard.

Allen keeping moving, preventing Willow from controlling successfully.

Allen is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Willow presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Allen is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Willow to keep the fight standing.
Willow tries to score a body lock takedown but Allen shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Willow has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Allen after a bit of a struggle.
Hayden Allen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Walter Willow.
Allen tries to pull guard but Willow holds him up against the cage and eventually Allen drops back down to his feet.

Come on Willow - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Willow tries to circle away but Allen has him pinned against the cage.

Willow escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Allen drives through and clinches with Willow against the cage.

Willow successfully pulls guard.

Willow is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Allen defends well.
Allen tries to free his leg and advance position but Willow is retaining full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Willow looking to control.
Willow is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Allen pushes down on Willow's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Allen will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Allen trying to mount his opponent but Willow defends it.
Allen trying to control from half guard but Willow is working away.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Willow wants to get back to full guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Walter Willow will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Allen shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Willow as he avoids it easily.
Allen wants to clinch

and Willow counters with a single leg into guard. Allen didn't expect that.

Allen has his feet on Willow's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Allen swats away the attempt to clinch by Willow.

Willow throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Allen tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Willow is in Allen's guard.
Allen is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Willow dives into side control.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Allen can't do much from the bottom here.
Allen is not content to let Willow control the position.

Willow working away.
Willow has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Willow looking to control but Allen is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Willow is landing with some decent strikes but Allen is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Willow unloading with bombs!

Allen is squirming around, avoiding Willow's attempts to control the action.
Willow sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Willow trying to control but Allen is having none of it.

Allen somehow manages to escape the mount and get back to his feet!
Willow throws a head kick but Allen moves out of range.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Willow gets the takedown into side control.

Allen bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
Hayden Allen is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Willow moves into the clinch.
Allen changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Willow fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Allen checks a low kick from Willow.
Allen drops down looking for a counter takedown but Willow sprawls and moves away.
Allen tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Willow was well out of range. Poor timing from Allen.
Willow is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

Willow scores with a takedown into Allen's guard.
Willow is standing up over Allen. Allen looks to escape but Willow dives into side control.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Willow in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.

Willow wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Allen, who protects the arm well.
Willow working the ground and pound.

Allen throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
Willow scores with a spinning back kick!
Allen circles away from the clinch attempt.
Hayden Allen has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Walter Willow is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Willow shoots in and gets a takedown into Allen's guard.

I would just about give that final round to Walter Willow.
I've got Willow winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
