PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Oystein Aarseth (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Viktor Hoppe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Aarseth might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to norwegian folk songs. Oystein Aarseth is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Oystein Aarseth!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Viktor Hoppe!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Roosa Järviläinen and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hoppe tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Aarseth swivels and escapes.
The fight stays on the outside here - Aarseth looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Hoppe looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Hoppe is looking for a kimura here.
Aarseth wants to get back to his feet.
Aarseth trying to hold on to Hoppe's head to control him but Hoppe postures up.
Hoppe stalling away here and it's allowed Aarseth to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Hoppe drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Aarseth manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Hoppe has Aarseth in his guard.

Hoppe looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Aarseth has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Hoppe is proving hard to escape from.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Hoppe wants to sweep here but Aarseth controlling him for the moment.

Hoppe is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Aarseth content to stall in guard here.
Aarseth seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Hoppe for as long as he can get away with.

Hoppe had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Aarseth is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Hoppe Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Aarseth's back instead.

Hoppe tries to get the hooks in deep but Aarseth pushed the leg off.

Aarseth manages to reverse the position and now he's in Hoppe's guard. Nice work there by Aarseth.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Hoppe looking for a guillotine here but Aarseth defends easily.
Hoppe has a closed guard, preventing Aarseth from standing up.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Aarseth moves into the clinch.
Hoppe has Aarseth pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Aarseth manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Aarseth's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Aarseth gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Hoppe regains guard.

Aarseth goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Hoppe throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Aarseth's waist but Aarseth gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Hoppe off to one side.

Hoppe escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Aarseth gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Aarseth would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Hoppe looking to control.
Aarseth not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Hoppe looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Hoppe wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Hoppe is looking for a triangle but Aarseth pushes his legs off easily.

Aarseth tries to close the distance and clinch up but Hoppe swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Hoppe throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Aarseth counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Hoppe's guard now.
Hoppe trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Aarseth's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Aarseth bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Hoppe closes the distance and clinches up with Aarseth, looking for a takedown. Hoppe pushes Aarseth against the cage but Aarseth circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Hoppe keeps the fight on the outside.

Aarseth has closed the distance and engaged Hoppe in a clinch.
Hoppe dodges an elbow strike from Aarseth.
Aarseth working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.
Aarseth pushes Hoppe back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Aarseth is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Hoppe gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Aarseth goes for a takedown in the clinch but Hoppe prevents it.
Hoppe tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Aarseth smiles and moves away.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Hoppe shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Aarseth as he avoids it easily.
Hoppe shoots in and drives through. Aarseth sprawls well.

and Hoppe counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Aarseth!

Hoppe is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Aarseth can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Aarseth tries to hold on but Hoppe postures up.
Aarseth is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hoppe unloads with some shots from mount but Aarseth bucks and avoids them well.
Aarseth wants to hold on but Hoppe pushes him away.

A nice elbow there by Hoppe.
Hoppe punching from mount but Aarseth doing a good job of avoiding damage.
Aarseth is trying desperately to improve position.
Hoppe throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Aarseth because Hoppe loaded up on that one.
Aarseth is in a horrible position here. Hoppe smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Hoppe is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Aarseth has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Aarseth!

Hoppe has his foot on Aarseth's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Aarseth works his way back into a safe position though.

Hoppe tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Aarseth has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Hoppe wriggles free and stands up.
No luck for Hoppe with that takedown attempt.
Oystein Aarseth is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The fighters are battling for position here. Hoppe manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Viktor Hoppe has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

I would just about give that final round to Viktor Hoppe.
Well Aarseth has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
