PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Lou Valentine (ranked 676 p4p, 1353 weight class) and Benny Figg (ranked 95 p4p, 183 weight class). Figg comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Bon Jovi - Wanted Dead Or Alive kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Lou Valentine!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Benny Figg!
The judges for this bout are Percy O'Donnell, Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Valentine looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Figg!

We've been hearing good reports from Valentine's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Figg takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Valentine tries to move into full mount but can't pass Figg's legs.
Figg manages to work his way to half guard, despite Valentine's best efforts.

Valentine seems to be looking for submissions.
Valentine has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Valentine uses his free foot to push down on Figg's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Figg.

Valentine has control of Figg's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Figg regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Figg can't escape the position.

Valentine is working for a guillotine from mount but Figg frees his head quite easily.
Figg avoids a strike by Valentine and manages to complete a very nice reversal in the process, to end up in Valentine's guard! Fantastic escape!

Figg with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Valentine has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Figg can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Valentine working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Figg doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Figg manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Figg throws an elbow that misses. Valentine uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Figg's guard. Nice move by Valentine!

Figg is trying to control but can't.

Valentine is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Figg doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Valentine.

Figg is looking to get back to full guard here but Valentine has managed to pass to side control instead.
Figg tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Valentine presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Figg is looking to improve his position but Valentine isn't that keen on the idea.

Valentine moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Figg has worked his arm free - good work by Figg!

Figg gets back to half guard.
Valentine lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Valentine wants to take a breather but Figg is having none of it.
Figg avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Valentine.

Figg is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Valentine not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Lou Valentine dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.


Valentine gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Figg swings wildly with an uppercut but Valentine uses good head movement to avoid it.

Valentine manages to pull guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Valentine holds on and takes a little breather.

Figg postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Valentine is trying to control the position but Figg postures up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Figg has his feet on Valentine's thighs here. He's pushed Valentine off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Valentine screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:53 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Benny Figg!
A relieved looking Benny Figg thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
