PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dagestani Wrestler (ranked 5357 p4p, 3724 weight class) and OneleO Bhengu (ranked 552 p4p, 444 weight class). OneleO Bhengu will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dagestani Wrestler!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, OneleO Bhengu!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Steven Brown and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bhengu shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Wrestler sprawls well. Wrestler wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Bhengu gets slowly back to his feet.
We've been hearing reports that Wrestler has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Wrestler closes this distance looking for a takedown but Bhengu circles away.

Bhengu fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Wrestler to the ground. Bhengu is now in Wrestler's guard.
Wrestler manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Bhengu manages to get himself to full guard.

Wrestler stays in close to Bhengu's body and controls the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Wrestler engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Wrestler forces his way into half guard.
Bhengu looks winded!
Wrestler seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Wrestler is looking to advance position but Bhengu won't allow it.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Wrestler is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Wrestler wants to free his trapped foot but Bhengu is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Wrestler is looking for a kimura but Bhengu is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Wrestler to get the leverage.
Wrestler content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Wrestler tries to pass the half guard into mount. Bhengu knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Wrestler fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Bhengu sprawls well initially but Wrestler persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Wrestler shoots in and drives through. Bhengu sprawls well.

Wrestler scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Wrestler has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bhengu is breathing heavily.

Dagestani Wrestler overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Wrestler's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Bhengu has a takedown stuffed.
Wrestler darts in looking for a takedown but Bhengu gets double underhooks and turns Wrestler into the cage.
We've been informed that Bhengu has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Bhengu has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Wrestler avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Wrestler gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Wrestler performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Wrestler is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Bhengu can do to turn this around?

Wrestler tries to pass to full mount but Bhengu defends it.
Wrestler is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Wrestler sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Wrestler is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Bhengu to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Bhengu shrugs it off.

Bhengu wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Wrestler.
Wrestler takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Wrestler closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Bhengu did well to prevent Wrestler getting side control.

Bhengu is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Bhengu won't allow Wrestler to pass to mount.

Bhengu takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Wrestler tries to pass to full mount but Bhengu defends it.
Wrestler perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Bhengu misses with a takedown

and Wrestler counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Wrestler is standing up over Bhengu. Bhengu looks to escape but Wrestler dives into side control.

This is a sustained period of stalling by Wrestler.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Wrestler tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Wrestler has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Wrestler remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Dagestani Wrestler is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Wrestler seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Bhengu for as long as he can get away with.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Dagestani Wrestler is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Wrestler feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
OneleO Bhengu has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Wrestler pushes down on Bhengu's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Dagestani Wrestler showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Wrestler, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
